How can you say that when no other rovers squad has finished in a higher league position Didn't we finish a couple of seasons in what is now the championship..? But never finished as high as top 6 and typical rovers if we had signed a replacement for Bradford when he broke his leg it could have been top it was that close

I'm not saying we are a one man team but if we lose Billy we will struggle, turn off the fax machine, steal DC s phone, be happier on Friday knowing we have fended off interest!

IMO not the best ever squad, certainly good enough to hold its own in div 1 this season.

We finished 10th that season We finished 13th. The exact same position we finished the year before in what is now The Championship. If the Play Offs were around in the 50's, then we may have got promoted to the top flight, we finished 6th in 1955/56 and 1958/59.

Not a patch on Bert tanns teams. When you can say player for player they are better than the following then you can say it is. Hoyle.Bamford. watling. Pitt.Warren. Sampson. Pether bridge. Biggs. Lambden.Bradford. hooper It's a different game now and if today's team played that side from late 50s, today's side would win 20-0 Only because most are in their 80's 90's or dead 🙄🙄🙄

After beating Fulham away and making 5 changes we beat a side who haven't conceded a goal or dropped a point in their first three games. We seem to have quality and cover in every position, maybe left wing and striker could be tweaked a bit more. I am very confident we can override injuries and suspensions to make a challenge this season. Also I would imagine DC has room in his budget for the second window shopping to push us over the line. Is this the best squad (not team) ever? Not a patch on Bert tanns teams. When you can say player for player they are better than the following then you can say it is. Hoyle.Bamford. watling. Pitt.Warren. Sampson. Pether bridge. Biggs. Lambden.Bradford. hooper Wow.They were simply legends but Ian Hamilton the best ever and Dai Ward too.You must be older than you look!!!!Howard Radford and Ron Nicholls top keepers too.

Ok so that team would win easily then. Silly me. Didn't say that but your 20.0 prediction is laughable.I still feel players of the calibre of Bradford and biggs would not only score but cause untold problems for lockyer and sweeney and can you imagine the effect of Peter hooper shooting from 30 yards with the new style beach ball when he could score from that distance with the ball they played with Fair enough. There's loads of variables tbh. Fitness would be the main one, forget the ball.

Talent and skill always beats runners.those boys had to be supremely fit to wear the heavy boots and play on surfaces that wouldn't be tolerated now and don't forget the ball.

The technical ability of footballers has certainly gone downhill, even in the last 10 years, let alone over 50. English players anyway.
The fitness has improved massively, but that's been to the detriment of ability with the ball.

squads used to be a lot smaller so difficult to say. The 70s team could only use 1 sub. I think there were only 15 or so players who were realistically going to play. Gerry Francis' squad, from memory was also pretty small. can't remember if it was still 1 sub or 2/3 by then. This squad is stronger then last season. I'd say it's on a par to Holloway's squads. Although that squad had more firepower - Cureton, Hayles, Roberts and Zamora. Zamora? We gave him away!

IMO last seasons squad is better than this seasons. I agree we've strengthened but whether we finish higher than last year depends on whether DC stays and whether the rest of league 1 is stronger or not. I won £90 on yesterday's game I'm going to put the lot on us to be promoted tomorrow. He who dares...
