While he did say sell-on clauses I'm sure he must have meant 'release clauses'. Like you suggest, why would we be happy with no sell on clauses? I've noticed in his interviews he does occasionally middle up some words and phrases and I think this is one of those occasions unless the reporter got it wrong. I meant muddle up!

Positive post, really think the gloom boys should take a leaf from your book👍. I strongly believe that we can compete with most sides in this division. Keeping Bodin is a massive statement. UTG The massive statement will be if we get Bodin to sign an extended contract without a bloody stupid sell on clause. Other than that he is just fulfilling his contract. yes, and luckily with BRFC. Enjoy the remainder of it👍

If I were BB I would look to sign a new improved contract asap. Strike whilst things are going well. It may be possible to negotiate a deal with Rovers that if they receive a £5 million offer ,BB gets £1million as a loyalty bonus for resigning and can leave. £4million and he gets £500,000 £3million he gets £200,000 £2million he gets £150,000.
Its then in BB's interest to go for as high a transfer fee as possible. ??

That could be a good way forward and deter players worth a few bob from running down their contracts purely to bag a nice signing on fee.Money for the player and club he's been nurtured by,in essence, would be compensated for that nurturing by the purchasing club. Seems to be a fairer deal all round to me. Value could go down as well though so the player(s) in question would have to be very confident in their own ability or they may still go down the route that only puts a wedge in their own pocket.Other problems could arise no doubt but a nice concept I think.

To be fair I reckon it's about a 50/50 split of moaners / people who are well happy with how far we've come in such or short space of time- or otherwise known by the moaners as " rose tinters". Lol

Just thinking about what I would do if I were Bodin. I think my negotiating position would still be good at the end of this season even if I hadn't had a great one so I would still be assured that Rovers would want to re-sign me. At the same time I might want to make it easy for a club to come in for me (I.e. on a free). I think my hand would be stronger not signing before the end of the season so any deal before that would have to be very sweet for me. No, that's settled it. I'm not going to sign for Rovers before the end of this season. If I were Bodin from a half-loyal, half-selfish point of view, I would say: -I am the best player at this club so make me the highest paid -I want a contract until 2020, that way if I get a repeat of my previous injury, I'm still being paid a good wage for a couple of years -I want a release clause of £1mil. That means the club get decent money for me, but is also probably half of what my realistic value would be if I have another good season and someone will be willing to pay it. It also means the club can't reject any stupid amount of money if I want to move on. In this scenario, everyone wins. Some of the fans may not be happy if we only get £1mil for BB after he scores 20 goals this season. But at the end of the day, it means we've had a 20 goal a season winger all year and then sold him for £1mil (which is still a decent amount at this level) at the end of it rather than losing him for nothing. Great post. I suspect a few players already have two year contracts (all of those we paid fees for) as well as others such as Lockyer, giving BB security against an injury, good wage and still a chance to move on if his form continues.

Surely it was 3 years ago? Other than that I fully agree. We are on an upward trajectory. After our now traditional slow start to the season, I reckon if we were to now play Charlton and Peterborough we would give a much better account of ourselves. I would like to retract the optomistic statement re Charlton and Peterborough. I don't think we are up to beating the very best teams in the league. I don't know whether having Sweeny and Lockyer would have made the difference today, but at the same time I cannot for the life of me understand why Partington and Telford didn't play a part. Ive been at work today and have had to deal with some absolute belters; thick, ignorant and stupid, so perhaps I am feeling a little bit jaundiced. Still, there's always next Saturday and a home match at the Mem. It's the hope that kills you!

Personally I think I was taken in by the Hamer statement about the "Top six budget" but I have never felt confident regarding DC's transfer dealings other than in the Conference season, The best teams in this division are blessed with pace- Charlton, Peterborough and Bradford are examples and I would lay odds that Blackburn and Wigan will possess the same. DC has signed neither width or pace and the slowness of our build up is ponderous. Thankfully I think we can beat the poorer sides and hopefully come January DC can improve the side enough to change things around again.

I was fine until ' BudgetGate'.... another season of consolidation ...No worries! Hamers truth twisting about transfer incomings and the clubs apparent lack of knowledge in transfer market value hikes left us at the starting gate whilst others did their thing. We won't compete at the top level this year and I will be surprised if we beat last years points tally, neither worries me, although preseason excitement has long since dispersed.. I'm expecting all sorts of tantrums and posturing about siege mentality from DC along the way this year and I sense it could be messy. How many times did we hear yesterday Four promotions in six seasons and still under 40 ? Bored with it to be honest... We have a great manager whom I wouldn't swap but he is still learning his trade and HE needs to realise that Possessing an Ability to sign target players whom you have identified as improving your squad is a key element to the role ... much still to do here. Yesterday was a self fulfilling prophecy .... No Sweeney will mean Wyke will be a real handful .... Surprise Surprise he was and questions have to be asked about what was covered in training ... we are three or so signings light from being a very good team and we are carrying at least two every Saturday ..sometimes more if Ollie Clarke isn't up for it and it's hurting us.

I think most of us were taken in by the SH statement - but not anymore!! I have a strong feeling that DC's hands are firmly tied wrt budgets - I believe he tried but was unable to bring in the players he wanted/needs. I'm sure the Board realised that if they had agreed to the sale of BB without replacement the repercussions would have been enormous across the fan base - I don't necessarily agree it was a sign of intent by the club. A sign of intent would have been to release more funds to enable DC to have strengthened the squad - this clearly didn't happen. The squad IMO at the moment looks very lean with no quality in depth - another season of consolidation (at best) I'm afraid.

My lack of confidence in DC's transfer dealings are really down to the fact that so many of his signings are bit part players many of whom rarely play two games on the trot irrespective of how they play. It amazes me that DC was willing to play two rookie centre halves yet was not willing to take a chance with Telford who scored two in the week. I think most Managers have sussed out now that our full backs like to go on runabouts and play in behind us at every opportunity. There are times, like yesterday where we look a tactical shambles and this has now been evident in half our games played. Gung ho rather than organisation.

Our 2 centre halves were on international duty. What did you expect him to do, tell Wales that Lockyer had to play for us and drive him down to Cardiff for the game last night. Any Dam excuse to have a go or belittle DC, you love it.
