The M5 is shut at Junction 14 Thornbury, and the A38 is packed there, if you're driving back from Wigan.

So im guessing there will be big queues on the M5 as well as a packed A38.
Any suggestions to those driving for alternative routes ?
into Wales and across the bridge for free ? via Cirencester ?

Yeah, it looks like Gloucester to Chepstow might be good, or Stroud and the A46. Those wanting a bigger less bendy road might head for the A449 coming from the M50 (?) down to the M4 at Newport. More miles but might be quicker/safer/easier ?

Southbound the M5 is stationary from at least Michaelwood Services near Thornbury, so use either the M50 or come off at J13 and use the A38 or if you live in NE Bristol etc the road leading to Dursley which will eventually bring you to Frampton Cotterell/Winterbourne, which is the route I had to follow north.
