ANDY Monkhouse has urged a word of caution to those who think Bristol Rovers' victory over Wrexham on Tuesday night could signify the turning of another corner.
Monkhouse scored his second goal of the season to decide the affair in favour of Rovers to ensure they quickly bounced back from a disappointing defeat at Braintree Town last weekend.
It brought to an end a recent three-game unbeaten run that had suggested Rovers were well on the road to recovery following a disappointing start to the campaign during which Darrell Clarke's side failed to win any of their opening three encounters.
Rovers will now look to build on that confidence-boosting victory against Wrexham when they go to Sincil Bank to face Lincoln City tomorrow.
But Monkhouse, pictured, warned: "We looked like we were moving in the right direction a couple of weeks ago and then we came unstuck at Braintree.
"It was important to bounce back because the golden rule is to make sure you don't lose two games on the spin.
"It was good that we had a chance to put things right quickly with a game on Tuesday night.
"It wasn't the prettiest of performances, but I think we deserved the win in the end. It is not going to be stringing 20 passes together and winning games 3-0 all the time.
"The gaffer has said that sometimes we are bringing pressure on ourselves because we are not taking enough of the chances we are creating.
"We had a couple of opportunities to go two or three goals ahead on Tuesday night and if we'd have done that it would have taken a bit of pressure off and we could enjoy the football a little more.
"We just can't seem to get that second goal that would take the pressure off at the minute.
"But while that is still the case we just have to keep digging in to get the results we need.
"It is up to us now to try and build on the result on Tuesday night by getting a decent result at Lincoln on Saturday and see where we after that."
The 1-0 victory served to keep Rovers' unbeaten record intact front of their own supporters, but Monkhouse conceded that they will need to be better on their travels if they are to make any sort of challenge over the course of the season.
Only one of Rovers' 11 points this season has come on the road, where they have also suffered much-maligned defeats at both Altrincham and Braintree Town.
"It is up to us as a team and a staff to work out why we have lost those types of games. It's a weird one really, but if we want to be successful this season that has to change quickly.
"We let a lot of people down in that final 30 minutes at Braintree last Saturday.
"There was almost a desperation in our play because we did a lot of things we wouldn't do on the training ground and we made it easy for them in the end.
"There has been a big change over of players over the summer and it was always going to take some time. We know we don't have too much of it though, so the quicker we really click, the better.
"Not may clubs will fancy playing us at the Mem, but, on the other hand, we do need to be a little bit stronger away from home.
"Perhaps we need to employ a slightly different mentality to start picking up some points."
