Following relegation to the conference Darrell Clarke fronted up on Twentymans radio show and absorbed the blame but mentioned that he was a fighter who never gives up and given the chance he would work his damned hardest to get Rovers back in the football league. He did exactly that and then some. It's not bottom 3 cut adrift staring relegation in the face, it's indifferent form, lack of spending, loss of biggest goal scoring threat from last season to the sh** and now loss of most influential player this season in Billy Bodin. Surely it's not the end of the world is it? Remember the mid to late 80's and struggling just to survive in Division 3 and the awful times leading up to 2014? Sense of real perspective required. January requires some business to be done and then see what happens eh? Yeah, and it's the first blip we've had since then, if you can even call it a blip. 6-0-8, hardly a disaster.

He's spent the first half of each season he's been in charge tinkering with players and formations, frustrating us but keeping us in sniffing distance of the promotion spots ready for a late run. He always shoulders the blame when he gets it horribly wrong, like he did with his 4-3-3 at Shrewsbury. His teams go from being disjointed to well-oiled machines when he finally decides which formation to play. The league table doesn't lie at this time of the year. We're handily placed to finish strongly as we normally do, but as we lack the infrastructure to sustain a stay in the Championship we'll have to be happy with a strong finish. There's nothing inept about him and in our current situation of broken dreams and an uncertain future there's no-one better to maintain our top half League 1 status because he's Rovers through and through and he hasn't failed us yet. The only thing is you're supposed to do the formation tinkering in pre-season.

Sorry to ruin your misconceptions of the relegation season ward did not jog off as you say he was told that clarke was taking good over for the last 8 games and he would be director of football. Ward want to see the season through and if the worst thing happened he would take full responsibility. Unfortunately the Chairman decided otherwise. You may not think there is any debate about managers abilities but if you held a poll with all rovers fans not just those in a forum you will find that a lot agree with me I remember Ward coming out to the fans after that Mansfield game at the back of the blackthrone and he said when questioned about our date with "Well I wasn't in charge for the last 8 games" Sorry John, but you created a awlful side that had an awlful season and that was before DC took over.I know his wife was ill at the time, but he lost all my respect after saying this. The football we played was truely, truely awlful. As for a poll.Well maths doesn't lie and DC has the most promotions and success of any Rovers boss off all time.Simple really. And I hope the man stays with us for many a season to come. But there again we have never been in the conference before or in league 4 when the aforementioned managers were in charge and who is to say that they wouldn't have at least equalled that achievement

Our problems now are minor compare to all of the manager's since Holloway era (bar trolls for a few years ) We've scored the most goals in the League but have a weak defence. It's simple. We are not at the bottom of the table playing Wards football.

I think some Rovers and football fans in general always expect instant success. Most of us on here should bear I mind that we are not in tinpot Yeovil's position of 18th in Leauge Two and likely heading to the conference.

Imagine it was us rather than Oxford who got the late winner in a very close game.
Even after the Shrews spanking we'd be in 9th position 1 point off the playoffs.
It's a long season - calm the fook down.

It's a long season - calm the fook down. I don't think it's league position that is causing the concern it's the way we seem unable to stop teams scoring and statistics do not lie 2 goals per game conceded.it puts tremendous pressure on forwards to know you will inevitably need to score twice to get a draw

So what's the difference form last season, we've lost Lumley but gained Slocombe, the latter has hardly been to blame for many goals conceded and even Lumley let a few in towards the end of last season so no major change there. The back line is the same, the front two, three with Bodin, the same, so is the problem Sercombe and Nichols, being too weak? Sercombe was at fault for the first goal on Tuesday and there must be some reason Oxford were happy to see him go, Nichols as just been poor from the the first game. The other option, apart from last season's players losing form is we're missing Yatesy, let's hope he pops down to the training ground when he's back in Bristol next month!!

Why make this stuff up?

So many of our defensive players have struggled for form or had injury issues and this must be a headache for dc. Leadbitter, partington, burn, broadbent,o clarke,j clarke, brown, lockyer and sweeney have had a mix of form and injury problems. Stuart sinclairs injury also has played a part in our vulnerability imo. Lines and sercombe are both talented footballers but there are question marks about there defensive nous. Im sure the manager will be considering changes to how we set up for rochdale and beyond. For me if were going to play lines and sercombe in midfield we should just play one out and out striker both home and away.
