Do we have no one in the development squad that is a defensive/combative midfield player?
Over the years we have seen the experienced professional playing in front of the back 4 and controlling games, I think Linesey can do this but you need strong mobile central defenders as a platform and that we dont have.

Poor Byron. He must look sh** hot in training, and he does look like he is our fastest sprinter, but there is just no belief in himself. Problem is how can he play himself back into any form if he's dropped after just 1 match, unless BB's back tomorrow other than Broom we're struggling for midfielders. You need to have been in form to play yourself back into form. Unfortunately Byron has not been in form at any time since signing. Maybe he and Rovers just aren't the right fit for one another and he can do well again at another club which is surely inevitable next season.

Thanks Staff, much appreciated. I would like to dedicate this award to my family and my long suffering wife who puts up with me in Victor Meldrew mood for most Saturday nights if things don’t go our way on the pitch. And thanks to all fellow gasheads for being the best, most loyal fans in the country. PS you are bonkers Staff, I love it!

I have been saying to try to fullbacks as wide midfielders to try to stop the goals conceded for a long time ,it seems every other option has been tried without much success.
Still perhaps Rovers should look back to last season and look at the lineups/tactics chosen for the run of undefeated games from the end of January ?
Im thinking it was along the lines of
keeper brown lockyer Sweeney Leadbitter
Lines Clarke Sinclair bodin/moore/broom/telford
Harrison Nichols

He’s got a better Goals to minutes ratio than Bodin. Also if we’re quite defensive in midfield then we need Gafney and his energy to work bloody hard at making openings for attacks. Whilst Ellis has improved massively this season with his work rate I still think Gaf is more capable of creating something out of nothing by hard work. Goals per mins confirms that. He’ll be shattered by 70 minutes though because the lad gives 100% every second he’s on there so Ellis would get his chance anyway.

Luke russe is that type of player,he played against west ham but it was hard to judge him as they played us off the park but somehow only won 3-1. He had a decent 2nd half though.

Still the same midfield and tactics, again resulting in a hammering. I know the manager has little he can replace with but something has to change, we cannot wait 8 weeks for the transfer window and just bumble along until then. Our goal deference will be minus 80!!! I don't think the manager knows what to do?? Scunny will wipe the floor with us!! The goals were all very poor individual errors though, nothing to do with tactics and none of the mistakes made by midfield players.

I did not say it was the midfield mistakes it was the way we play putting pressure on the defence some leading to errors. If he plays the same midfield today (which he can't as Clarke is suspended) the defence will have the same problem. I expect Sinclair will come back in. UTG

I was just copying last seasons type of set up during that unbeaten run...Taylor featured for one game but James replaced him in the run..so Nichols cant be shyer on the goal front.Lumley was in goal so one of the current players replaces him even if they may not quite be his standard they are generally good keepers at this level. I didn't take this seasons form into account at all.... Just wondered if going back to basics that worked might be an option.
I cant see D.C. not investing heavily in January or the summer on one or two good experienced defensive players. The goals against column these last two seasons has been woeful and is holding the team back.
