FOOTIE fans caused outrage by flying an enormous flag with the face of serial killer Fred West on it.
The murderer's face, a can of cider and a number of flags made up the banner, attached to fencing at a Gloucester City home game. West killed at least 12 young women in Gloucestershire between 1967 and 1987.
The flag was spotted during a game against Brighton's Whitehawks FC and a fan account tweeted they were "appalled" by it.
Another Whitehawks FC fan, M.D. Lachlan, posted: "I've never seen someone stick a child abuser on their flag and then try to crawl out of it so pathetically.
"It was a bit sick and nothing to be proud of. The flag has been seen at numerous matches in the past - but Gloucester City football club insist it does not belong to any of their fans.
Chairman of the club Mike Dunstan OBE said: "We are aware of the flag but it really is a non-story as far as we're concerned.
"The flag actually belongs to a Bristol Rovers fan who is not a regular at our club.
"We've received some complaints from our own fans and we will endeavour to investigate further."
He added: "We wouldn't eject the supporter - we'd try our best to handle the situation in a diplomatic manner and ask him to take the flag down first."
The Sun Online has approached Gloucester City for further comment.
Dave Parker, safety officer at Bristol Rovers, told the Sun Online the flag was "distasteful" and the club would get it taken down if it was seen again.
He added he had been in touch with the police and if the flag was seen again at a match the person would be removed, banned from games and handed over to the police if appropriate.
Killer West hanged himself in Winson Green Prison on New Year's Day 1995 as he awaited trial for 12 murders.
His wife Rose is serving a full-life term in Low Newton Prison for her part in 10 of the murders, including that of her own 16-year-old daughter Heather.
