A professional footballer has denied assaulting a police officer. Peterborough United striker Ricky Miller, 28, also pleaded not guilty to using threatening behaviour and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
Mr Miller, of Fellowes Road, Peterborough, appeared at the city's magistrates' court on Wednesday.
He was granted unconditional bail and will go on trial on 30 April at the court. The player was on the bench for Tuesday's game against Portsmouth.
Mr Miller was arrested on Sunday 5 November.
The striker had been absent for more than two weeks, with his League One club, citing "personal illness and related circumstances".
He joined Peterborough on a three-year contract from non-league Dover in the summer but has failed to score in nine appearances.
The Hatfield-born former Luton Town forward won the National League Player of the Year award at Dover last season after scoring 42 goals in 43 matches.

I know some wanted us to splash out on him but no proof he has made the step up this season. Very different story with Taylor's transition.

Absolutely. They've made so much money through astute buying but don't think Nichols or Miller will be remembered well by their fans

Probably right. I never thought he would be a fit for us and think we might have avoided trouble but any guy is presumed innocent until his guilt is proved. Mind you it’s a very long wait until 30 April. Season will be almost over by then, if he’s been suspended until now then will he continue to be suspended? Big mess isn’t it? UTG!

He was on the bench against Pompey i believe, so not suspended.

Thanks meadgas. I think he was for two weeks but obviously ended now. Would be a long old season if he was suspended until it came to court. Big old worry hanging over him though. UTG!

I still think we should have signed him, at least this shows he can get a strike on target.

Funny how football turns out, if rumours are to be believed and he was our preferred Snake replacement, perhaps for once we got the rub of the green!
