I think the groundstaff and officials all share the blame for the shocking state of the pitch, At the start of the season they were watering when it was not needed just playing with the new sprinklers for the sake of it

Likely fine coming our way.Following all games officials and opponents have to comment and complete a questionairre on things like the pitch not being up to standard, did the home club provide towels, expenses etc etc and no doubt we have fallen well short pitch wise v Doncaster. Not easy to ameliorate at this time of year.Things not too professional at our club from many aspects. Fergie Junior and Browner had the courage to say the pitch wasn't up to standard. No good saying everything is ok.It clearly is not.

Think the ground staff have their work cut out to get even a half decent surface for Monday ? Have we had covers on over the last few days

Wasn't covered yesterday when I went to the shop. Not much point covering sand. We could build a pier over it though.

These things, they take time. We want to evolve the pitch over time. There are lots of things to take into consideration.

Lot of agreement on here that the pitch is crap, which it is, I am certainly no groundsman so have no idea what went wrong. My question for you lot with the green fingers, is there anything that can be done now to improve it other than a complete new pitch ? Anything that can be injected into it to make it more stable and resilliant?

Its my understanding that they used the wrong kind of sand when they relaid the pitch in the summer. This has already been posted on here. We will get a new pitch in the summer (again) but I'm not sure if the rework will cost us money or of it will be redone for free by the cowboys who f**ked it up the first time. I am told Ian Holtby managed the pitch project last summer and selected the cowboy contractors. Apparently they used cheap builders sand, and started a month late resulting in poor growth. Surprised no one has been reprimanded for such a costly mistake ! Don't seem to be cowboys www.inscapes.org.uk/commercial/sports-projects.htm?id=27

Hi the problem if I have heard correctly is that the underlying sand which the turf was laid on was builders sand which is wholly unsuitable for grass to grow on, builders sand had not suitable nutrients for grass to grow, this also means the turf does not bind together hence you see lumps coming out, all this is exacerbated by wet weather as water penetrators the turf joints and expands them if there are cold frosty periods. Only solution I'm afraid is to dig up and start again, hope this helps.
