The transfer fee was around £400K so hardly a massive secret, it'll be interesting to see how long DC hangs around if he's not backed financially this January, as the last thing he'll want is another relegation on his CV, the first one he can blame JW but a second one will not be so easy to pass the buck.

Hamer: "I think the money will be invested as to what Darrell Clarke wants to improve," he said. "He'll decide what he wants, where he wants to improve things on the field of play and where he wants to freshen up things. "We'll have a chat and we'll back him as best we can. If those are quotes from SH the key words that stand out for me are "I think" and "as best we can". Some nicely placed disclaimers from someone making a comment with no authority / clue what's going on.
In another thread there are suggestions that the training ground statement was put out there as a crude smoke-screen to divert attention away from the BB transfer, or to at least cushion the blow. However, maybe it was because of the transfer the club can now afford to finally nudge the development plans along..?!
I suspect the purpose of the transfer fee non-disclosure was to prevent the fans keeping tabs on how much is spent on re-investment in players in January (I mean, why would Preston care who knows the fee?). My guess is some of it will be creamed off to go towards the training ground with a proportion for new players.
spot on His exact quote from the gasplayer interview when asked about reinvestment: "I'm going to see Darrell in an hours time and uh, uh we're gonna be hopeful that, uh, you know, that um, you know, he's, he's, he's got three or four weeks to, uh, to find somebody that he feels."
Fills me with absolute confidence just that one line. The fact that the line wasn't finished just adds to the real confidence I've been given watching it. Can't help feeling SH just has this big clear picture of Hani in his mind whenever he gets questioned regarding finances.

The interviewers always seem so weak and don't challenge responses so the likes of Hamer get away with saying very little and sound so smug and non-commital. We fans deserve a bit more respect and want some real intent announced so that we can believe the Club are not moving backwards. Oh how long ago it now seems when the Jordanians took over and we were all so optimistic!

Oh how long ago it now seems when the Jordanians took over and we were all so optimistic! When you say 'the likes of Hamer', who are you blaming? Surely not actually Hamer? He is a (well-paid) salary man, put in place to present the club in a positive light because the owners can't (or won't) be in Bristol all the time to face the press and the fans. I can't say I've ever warmed to the man, but I've realised he's just doing the job he's being paid to do. He stopped the fake-positive stuff, like the landing lights remark, some time ago, perhaps because he and the club were being criticised too much for it. So now he goes for the possibly-fake lower our expectations approach, for which he also gets criticised. He takes all the flak and then has to go home and sleep at night. Which he quite possibly does very easily, because I suspect he doesn't really care too much about Bristol Rovers. Meanwhile the real suspects are content to sit in their air conditioned luxury pads in Jordan and work out how they can rescue or dump the whole project, whilst saving face and continuing to look respectable to their business community.

Sums it up nicely. One thing's for sure, the owners are coming across (IMO) as shockingly bad bankers. I wouldn't trust them to invest my kid's pocket money.

I doubt if Bristol Rovers ranks highly in the business concerns of the Al Qaedi's. If they really are international bankers with fingers in many pies then we are probably a minor sideshow in the scheme of things. Hence the lack of communication and the apparent lack of progress. It could be that, Wael apart, they barely give us a thought.

I'm not sure what I've got to do with this, and I'm not running everybody down. It's a little forum where we all express opinions, and apart from the occasional match, pie and £10 to the FFSC, I do nothing. I'm just pointing out that Mr Hamer is not responsible for the debts, the UWE cancellation, or indeed the possible glorious future which lies ahead if Plan B happens.

Hamer is in a no win situation. If he came out and said we’re going to sign x or y he’d spark a bidding war that would cost us more money. If he said we aren’t going to sign anyone he’d get crucified by he fans. So he says DC has some money to spend and knows who he wants. Yes it’s waffle and filling in but what else can he say without doing any damage to the club. In interviews DC has been saying he knows what he wants and has some names to chase. This time he’s got 4 weeks not 4 hours like last January. Let’s hope he gets what wants.
