I started watching Rovers regularly in the early 80s. Wigan Athletic 4-0 at home. Graham Withey came on and scored a couple.I'd been to a few games in the 70s, but wigan at home, in the pouring rain was the beginning for me. And Larry Lloyd got sent off! I wept when Mickey died, was at Ashton when Mark Oconner headed us level before Randall finished them off. Was at the first game at twerton against Reading in the league cup. 7 years ago I had to move to Southampton. I stopped going to Rovers games for a bit. I followed as best I could, but it was a long distance love affair. Then we got relegated to the conference. I had to start following again even though a home game was a 150 mile round trip. Two of my daughters wanted to know why Rovers meant so much. One has become a season ticket holder and has moved to Bristol because of Rovers. We went to Dorchester and Woking and Eastleigh. Funny, all these years on, some teams are in the same place as we were in 1981. We are still playing Wigan, Pompey, Plymouth, etc. A few are higher up the league, alot have sunk into obscurity. Will I stop loving the gas? Nah. The Gas, the gas, you'll never get rid of the gas! Enjoy Frome, I'm sure itll be great. As for me, I'll enjoy being with my North Bristol family. Utg. Sounds like my experience but left Bristol much earlier. I started going more in Conference and did many away matches. Was at all those matches you said and many other away ones incl Southport and Nuneaton. I married a girl from western shore near you but couldn’t persuade my sons to be gasheads. One is Bournemouth and the other Everton, my second team. Both say Rovers is their second team! Huh!! I understand why people are upset and even their giving up a st. But they will still go I bet. Trouble is with being a fan whatever your head says after a bad defeat or some stuff your heart always wins and you are one for life whatever. UTG!

I gave up watching rovers ten years ago nothing there to get me back watching at the moment as we've been lied to by past and present owners over the years You’ve missed probably the craziest up and down decade in our history. I’m so glad I supported Rovers through those hardest times in to the conference and now all the way back up to league 1. But each to their own.

Socrates. I agree with what you say and would like to add that if you can survive some of those horrendous years then our current ‘plight’ seems moderate by comparison. However it would still be nice to get something positive to look forward to.

However it would still be nice to get something positive to look forward to. I agree. I do think there are some positives though. For a start DC is still our manager ,we’ve got a squad who work hard for him, we’re league 1 which is higher than we’ve been for most of the last 10 years. There’s 3 massive reasons to be positive. Also and I know this subject divides opinion in our fan base but I’m much happier with our current board than the last shambles. Lots in here saying that they want to hear Wael come out with a plan and a vision but I think he’s already done that. He’s done his best to keep DC here and achieved that, he’s bought the land for the training ground and that’s going through planning, the one thing I’m worried about at the moment is what we’re going to do in the window. I really hope we don’t lose any more of our best players and I really think we need some quick wide players , and an experienced big stopper of a center half to play alongside Lockyer, But that’s not something to be positive or negative about right now because we don’t know what’s going to happen between now and feb 1st.

I dinnae think you should ever under-estimate how hard clubs management an players etc work behind th scenes ta make a success of things. They hurts too y'know. Thats why theys got where they are - hard chuffkin graft.

May I suggest you email Tom Gorringe with your thoughts. I passed on a few thoughts to him via email a couple of months ago, one of which included the match day experience. I dread half time at home games because I hate just standing around doing nothing. I hate City with their stupid gifs for their goals but at least it is outside of the box thinking. If you do decide to email then here is the email address - TomGorringe@bristolrovers.co.uk I genuinely admire your optimism. Hugo is right.... the Match day experience is poo. We dont eat at the ground becuse it's al sh**e and overpriced, can't get a drink in the warm anywhere and the YP cabin is a flashback to the early 1700's.... However, without major money thrown at it, it wont change sufficiently to make any difference. That said, to put some perspective on the the food, i had a pasty at Bath Rugby the other day - same brand and everything.... even at a Prem RFC is was overcooked and aver priced so we are not alone in that at last! The ground really is the biggest issue at the moment...

First game was a local derby 1974 Eastville, on Good Friday 0-0 draw. Never looked back, have managed between 10-20 games a season ever since including the odd season watching every game home and away. Fantastic memories of winning 4-0 at Fulham away in the playoffs, going to Anfield, Highbury, Wembley and enjoying the promotions. Still attended regularly despite living 6 years in Rome 4 year Lisbon during this time. Watching Francesco Totti and Rickie Lambert regularly in the same season. I now keep my season ticket which my mates enjoy when I am absent, which works out roughly the same price of paying on the door for the games I get to. For me the last three years have been best for ages, great manager, good football and in a stadium that when in Bristol I can walk too. WAEL came in and gave the club a bounce, if he was in it just for a profit then why not sell the club on whist UWE was still a possibility. To be honest I am not that fussed about premiership football height of my ambition would be the Championship in a rebuilt Memorial Stadium. Two or three seasons in Div 1, a new training ground built and work started on new Stands at the memorial. Would be progress and for me WAEL and Co delivering (a long way from the leaky roofs of Twerton). I remember that Fulham game. I was living in London and could only get tickets for the home end. I was amongst all the fulham fans when Ollies chip opened the scoring. I can remember the silence, then this wall of sound when you lot in the away end realised what had happened!

Just watched it on YouTube. Actually Ollies goal was the second. But that second of silence then wall of sound I remembered perfectly. Here I am in Southampton. I could take my kids to see saints every other week. But it wont happen. Rovers are in our dna. Sorry for being positive on such a negative thread, but Rovers will be handed onto another generation after me. Utg.

My son is 4 and this got me thinking about what's going to happen when it gets to the time to take him to watch his first match. We live 4 1/2 hours away from Bristol. If it was half that I would probably still take him to see the Gas, but obviously we are too far out of range to go regularly. It makes me think what Yorkshire club might become his team, and my second team. Very hard to even contemplate it, to be honest!!
