Imagine if we had Mensah on one wing and Muzzy on the other. That would certainly be worth the admission.

Big season for this bloke. Hoping he could turn into an important player for us. I can only see him getting time off the bench this season with the likes of Bennett, Matthews and Rodman well ahead of him in the wide positions and Sercombe being the attacking midfielder. If we have a mare in the transfer market this week and don't get any strikers that may him see get some game time.

As each day passes so the mare in the transfer market looks more likely and wouldn't surprise me is it went to the last day of the market. I feel we so often spend the whole time going for PLAYER A and then end up waiting till the last day of the deadline and end up with Player C. Perhaps we should go straight to Player C if A or B are not prepared to commit quickly and make sure we get a signing through the door in time for a couple of training sessions before the first match.

I can hear DC saying we have to work with what we got. I didn't see anything at anytime in Mensah that resembled his video clips when he first signed. Another Nathan Blissett for me. If MS has worked his magic pre season and he can take that centre forward role in the way Jason Roberts developed then we already have that gem

Obviously it takes time to adjust when you move up two divisions but I think he’ll surprise a few this season.

It was noticeable that he was physically strong and not out of place when he came on v exeter and played as a striker. He did ok.

He needs to have more impact but he is only 23 and that was his first spell of league football, so I don't think it's fair to make too much of a judgement yet. He has shown glimpses (albeit very little) of brilliance with sharp passes and movement. I see something there too but we should find out more this season.

I agree. In fact, why stop at Player C? We should go for Player Z. Maybe by pass league players, even bypass Conference Players. Go for a few from Southern League, we could get quite a few of those in - and quickly. And we can turn our comms up a notch: "Welcome XXXX, we think he has a great chance to develop here. He knows there are things he needs to work on (shooting, tackling, marking, passing, scoring, running, speaking) but we want players who are hungry to improve. Some of our primary targets from the Championship were out of our range, as were those from League 1, League 2, Conference National and Conference North and South. But we know our fans are eager to see new players as soon as possible and its absolutely vital that we sign these player before the first game of the season, as we know the other 50 odd that we will play this season aren't nearly as important"

Agree that Mensah has raw skill/talent and he could be good for us in time, one of the things he needs to do though is build up his fitness levels.
It was obvious from his performance at FGR that he is nowhere near the level that DC will expect him to be to match the likes of Harrison, Sinclair, O Clarke etc.
The good news is that he is in great hands with DC and MS, if anyone can turn him into a decent league 1 player it's them!

Just more guesswork about a process none of us know anything about. Not saying you're wrong, but you have no idea whether you are right either. But hey, if it fits with an agenda to criticise for the sake of criticism then that's ok...

gas1970 "criticise for the sake of criticism then that's ok.."- Are you having a laugh? It is now 2 days to the start of the season and we are talking about a team that has somebody standing in whilst our new signing at left back gets fit, two strikers one of which couldn't strike a match at the present time and friendlies that have built up to a 0-4 against second division opponents who each year seem to be able to sign new players and be prepared BEFORE the season starts. Hardly critising fo9r criticism sake- oh and we now have a Head of recruitment!!

Hardly critising fo9r criticism sake- oh and we now have a Head of recruitment!! Some valid concerns there, albeit we're only talking about one game out of 46 and the transfer window hasn't closed yet. However, your comments about Player A, B and C are based purely on your imagination of what happens and not based on any knowledge of what actually happens (unless of course you are privy to the day to day work Darrell undertakes). And as for the 0-4, yes it was a poor result. But results in themselves don't matter in pre-season. They didn't matter when we beat West Brom last year and they don't matter now. What pre-season does is build fitness and allow the manager to concentrate on certain things in a 'safe' environment. No different to a batsman in the nets in that respect.
