Today marks 2 years since Al'Q's took over the ownership of our beloved club. I've been trying to have a think of how the last couple of years have panned out? Has there been any real improvement?
>Set up of development squad >Academy is in much better shape than it was >Spending money on players (Nicholls, Mensah, Parts...) >Purchase of land to build an owned training facility >Tying down one of the brightest FL managers on a long term deal >Brining in professionals to run the club properly (Tom Gorringe etc)
Along with a couple of smaller things which have made the club more professional and in line with other clubs- >First team now provided with food after training >Travelling to away games the day before
The above would suggest to me that the everyday running of the club has moved forward considerably. Obviously there have been some negatives-
>The failed UWE (Although not the Al'Q's project) >I have learned to take things Hamer says with a pinch of salt (landing lights and all that) >I have accepted the charge against the mem as this is a general practice of protecting an investment >The general consensus that there seems to be no real rush to come up with any real stadium development plans- I'm am sure that the family are looking at options of improving them Mem / building new stadium and I think that if we did ever get to that stage the club would be ready for lift off as the facilities are what is currently holding us back. >The general radio silence which we get is very frustrating and I do wonder where the leadership of the club would come from if DC was to move on.
Overall from me though, although it hasn't been the 'Man City effect' that some thought was happening, I think the last 2 years have moved the club in the right direction and has begun to bridge the gap in professionalism in how the club is ran which had developed under the previous regime. I still believe that the Al'Q's are the right fit for the club and are looking to take the club forward.
Keep up the good work Al'Q's (just get the bloody ground development situation sorted!)

Anyone able to provide a summing up of WAQs interview for those of us unable to listen at the moment?
I don't think there is any doubt we have progressed both on and off the pitch under their ownership but until there are some stadium plans and the contradicting comments from the chairman and manager regarding budgets stop, there are always going to be some concerns.

Yeah, but we all did think it and we were allowed/encouraged to think it by some people. Imo WAQ and SH got a bit over excited a few times at the start. That said, the previous board spent 10 years or more failing to get us a new stadium. I can't understand why the AQs are getting such a hard time. Their failure to get a stadium is about the only comparison you can make with the previous owners. They are streets ahead in almost all other areas.

I think DC needs to shut his mouth when it comes to Budgets, leaving it to people who know about these things

I don't think they are, its just a lack of communication and a lack of a business plan for the new stadium which is worrying. As I posted in another thread, when you map out the time scale of getting the mem regenerated to a form of completion you are looking at 4-5 years, thats if we start now, but there is no plans and no indication we are starting anytime soon. The mem is not fit for purpose for 10 years ago let alone going forward another 5 years. It worries me as we potentially have the best opportunity on the field with the management team to move forward and we cannot maximise it or be in a position commercially to maximise it if we did reach the championship. The ALQ's have done a great deal of good for our club, I expected them to drop a few clangers along the way and they have, but nothing unforgivable.

If and a BIG if we ever get promoted to the Championship, Plans for a new or regenerated stadium will be presented faster the a rat up a drain pipe.... I'm sure the Colony plans will be presented to South Glos pretty soon for a £2m investment by the family

With all the problems we have had in the past it would be better to get planning in now, so all the nimbys and tree huggers can crack on with their protesting and get that in our back pocket. Planning doesn’t expire for 5 years so if the plan is to do it when we get promoted we can crack on straight away. Or why not build it whilst we are at the sharp end in L1..??

If we are to redevelop the mem then getting planning will be a lot easier then the two previous attempts because planning has been granted in the past and it only time expired. If BCC objected to any new plans (and they won't), an appeal to the secretary of state will happen and he has to respond with 6 weeks now...
