I think our signings were a bit meh tbh. Craig and Bennett have both looked hit and miss to me. Craig has experience and leadership but not sure about upsetting what was developing a good partnership between Locks and Broadbent. Bennett is going to be one of those players that will do something fantastic now and again but frustrate you for most of the time I think. Mensah has looked fairly raw but excites me, he was always going to be bedded in slowly, hopefully he can ease his way into the team between now and May and we will see him flourish next season.

I think our signings are good. We’re actually a better team without Bodin, we’re set up to give more players an opportunity to attack. For whatever reason we played too much through Billy and didn’t get our play going otherwise. I’m not sure that it was necessarily a tactic- but a habit. If there’s a good chance your teammate might ping it in- top corner you look to give it to them.
My only critique of signings is that we so badly need last seasons Ollie Clarke. Recently, he’s shown in fits and bursts what he can do- but I generally see how a games going based on OCs first few mins. Depth wise I felt we needed one more here anyway...
Can we make the playoffs? - if OC finds his boots and Gaffney shoots more then yes.
Edit: less so a criticism of Ollie Clarke more that he was so great last season. I felt the injury to him is what stopped us making it last season. If he can get that drive going- it’ll be big.

Totally disagree with you about Billy, Madgas. you could play the ball to him and he'd keep it and then bring other players into play. That doesn't happen so much now. That's forgetting about his sensational goals and assists. At the moment Bennett flits in and out of play. He also looks a bit one-dimensional - gets the ball on the left and cuts inside. I haven't seen him go round on the left - to cross it or shoot. Does he have a left foot ? Something maybe for Stewie to get him working on.

My thoughts as well, why doesn't he go left occasionally, plus I've not seen him hit a decent cross once he cuts in, he's always looking for a shot on goal but he doesn't seem to have BB's shooting ability, at the moment I'd start with Moore & Sercs and use Bennett late on if we needed a goal.

Sort of agree with you, but Moore does better for me on the right. We never replaced Montano - a frustrating season !

Not sure how fans can judge our new players after so few games , dodgy pitch and just settling in. Give them a minimum of 10 full games before even starting to form an opinion of wether you think they’re any good or not.

Going by that we may be able to judge Mensah fairly in 3 years..

Similarities in the signing of Partington last January, also from the conference. He only started 4 games for us last season but after a full pre-season he has showed us what an effective player he can be this year.

Im very optimistic that Rovers will equal or beat last seasons 10th spot. Its not going to be easy with so many sides fighting it out in midtable. 8th or 9th would be brilliant and the playoff dream should always be kept open as long as its mathematically possible.
Next season will see the Rovers squad very much a seasoned league one squad.
What will stop this season being a playoff final/ promotion season. Lack of scoring strikers. as it stands currently. A Rated league one strikers ? none B Rated league one strikers ? Harrison C Rated league one strikers ? Gaffney D Rated league one strikers ? Telford & Nichols
The lack of competition for a strong central midfield player will affect the way the team lines up and the pressure the defence will come under.
The average crowd will be lower than last season so that's a glass half empty.

"The club in general will want to go again and to do that the squad probably needs some work."
I know it's none of his business, but surely few could argue with the words of Wigan manager Paul Cook?

Unless Gaffney & Nichols starts scoring soon I'd look to release/move on one or both of them, so freeing up wages for one or two newcomers. I agree re DCM, we will probably also need another winger assuming Moore is released and a RB unless Leads can overcome his hamstring problems, so not a massive amount of rebuilding work to do in the summer unless we lose Ellis/Locks or DC!!

Isn't that the case for most club's during the summer, I assume Cook will need to do some work himself if Wigan finish 3rd then miss out in the Play offs!!

Of course it is, but I don't see many Championship potential quality players in our squad and that is the type of players we should be looking to recruit, ones capable of doing a job at this level but also the one above.
