As the season has gone on, I have to say that Gaffers after having a good start doesn't look like he's got that quality to bang in 15 goals for us. But hope he stays as back-up ! Now with Billy Bob gone, we need more goals from other players. I've got confidence that Ellis can get us around 15/20 next season but I think we need to sign someone to take the burden off Ellis. Just imagine if he was out injured for a couple of months ?
Gaffers, Nichols, any other in the club wouldn't be able to step up to the plate. So who could we realistically go for ?
Looking at L2 top scorers there are 2 players who play locally to us who've had great seasons considering they have been in struggling sides - Mohammed Eisa at Cheltenham and Christian Doidge at FGR.
I hope these players, if good enough, would be in our price bracket. Anyone seen them play ? good enough for L1 and Rovers ?
Or is there anyone in our league of a good age who we could go in for ?

But where's the £1m going to come from to pay for their transfer fees? Telford could be the man next season to replace MT I think it's time to wave gaffers goodbye this summer, just a pity we can't do the same with Nichols!

How much would you buy Eisa and Doidge for ? More than Taylor and Bodin ? Do you think Cheltenham and FGR would be expecting a million for these guys ? Have you seen them play ? Any better than Telford ?

From what I've seen of Telford he could be the man to partner Ellis next season.
We'll likely need a new striker next season anyway as I can't see DC sticking with Rory.

Eisa recently signed a contract extension at Cheltenham until 2020. Cardiff have been linked.
Gary Johnson has said:
"Some League One clubs who are tracking him won’t be able to afford him, no chance. It could be either a big League One club or the one in the Championship. We won’t sell unless it’s big money."
There are some really good strikers abroad that would score goals and suit playing over here like Marcel Platzek, Patrick Schmidt, Sergio Buenacasa, Streli Mamba, Dani Aquino and others.

Pirate, you make me laugh with these foreign players - have we got a tradition of signing them or something ??
Are there any foreign players top of the scoring charts in L1 or L2 ? There's only 1in the top 6 in The Championship.

As far as im concerned, good players are good players no matter where they come from.

Bradford striker Alex Jones is a player in this country that I reckon would score goals for us.

Allowing for a player to miss a few league games for various reasons (play 40 of the 46 ? ) You would want your lead striker to score a minimum of 14 goals (bad season) an average of perhaps 16-17 goals a season . With good seasons bringing 20 or more goals.
Only league goals matter ,cups count for jack s**t . Cups are a novelty for fun and scoring goals against b teams in the mickey mouse cup first round should be left to reserve players.
So ideally Rovers need 2 strikers who can score a minimum of 14 league goals each every season.
EH is starting to qualify for this now (which is good) The other strikers are not and thus do not qualify themselves as one of the first choice strikers. So in short at least one new player needs to come into the squad...be that from the Under 23s or from elsewhere.

Agree,Gaffers no longer up to it but a useful sub.Nichols certainly far too weak and Telford it seems not DC's favourite.Need two in for next season and would ship Nichols out on loan.Must keep Ellis as he is our only consistent stiker.

Doubtful we'd get a superior replacement, in Gaffers' wage bracket. If we switched to a 4-4-2 for the remainder of the season, I would love to see Telford and/or Nichols given a fair crack alongside Harrison, but can't see that happening.

Makes sense to look elsewhere around the globe

I feel a bit for Gaffers really. He had a really good preseason and start to the campaign but was unable to nail down a place in the starting 11, mainly I believe this was due to the fact that we had paid a lot of money for Nico in the window and DC wanted to give him the opportunity to shine. If Gaffers had been allowed to build on what was really good form at the time he might have continued the scoring run he was on and helped us through the dodgy period we had before Christmas. Hindsight is a wonderful thing I suppose but I don't think Gaffers had a fair crack and DC even admitted this himself in one of his interviews. I still think Rory is a decent player and should continue to play for us next season.

Not really sure what's happened to his game as he seems to be getting worse rather than improving, although so his Nichols, but Telford who's found form hardly gets any game time. What's DC got to lose starting him alongside Ellis v bottom of the table Bury?

Said at the beginning of the season we didn’t have enough up front and needed to sign a decent centre forward. That’s not changed.
Hopefully we go out and spend the cash needed which in my opinion is about 500k to get the right player.
