We all know our play off chances are slim. But we do have hope, and I don't feel that we have any potential for disappointment if we don't make it. That's a nice situation to be in as normally it's the hope that sets you up for misery.
So, I have just been looking at the run in of our 6 rivals for the 2 available play off spots, and there are quite a few match ups between the 6 that I assume will prove crucial. I have also looked at the last 6 games form table.
Scunthorpe (20th in form W0 D4 L2) - Plymouth (h) - Wimbledon (a) - Charlton (a) - Walsall (h) - MK Dons (a) - Bradford (a)
Thoughts - need results quick to stay in the hunt, but form suggests that won't happen, especially against in form Plymouth.
Plymouth (3rd in form. W4 D1 L1) - Scunthorpe (a) - Peterborough (h) - Portsmouth (h) - Northampton (a) - Rochdale (a) - Rotherham (h) - Gillingham (a)
Thoughts -Best form of the six. If they use that momentum up I think they are my favourites for 5th spot. If they could win the next 3 I think that could seal it for them but also be of benefit to us.
Peterborough (6th in form W3 D2 L1) - Northampton (h) - Plymouth (a) - Rochdale (h) - Blackburn (a) - Shrewsbury (a) - Fleetwood (h) - Portsmouth (a)
Thoughts - On paper 3 home bankers and 4 really difficult away games. Much more likely than us to make 6th. Personally would much prefer Pompey, Charlton or Plymouth to make it but I fear Posh will sneak in.
Charlton 15th in form (W2 D1 L3) - Rotherham (a) - Gas (a) - Wimbledon (a) - Scunthorpe (h) - Shrewsbury (a) - Portsmouth (a) - Blackburn (h) - Rochdale (a)
Thoughts - won their last 2 under new manager so form position is misleading. But 6 difficult games on paper so hopefully they will lose enough to not make 6th. We must beat them to keep our chances realistic.
Portsmouth 11tg in form (W3 D0 L 3) - Walsall (a) - Wigan (h) - Rochdale (a) - Plymouth (a) - Bradford (a) - Charlton (h) - Bury (a) - Peterborough (h)
Thoughts - think they will beat Walsall today, and then hopefully they will continue their form of winning and losing. Got 4 of their play off rivals in their last 5 games so will be a key factor in the final standings. Gut says they won't quite make it.
Bradford 22nd in form W1 D1 L4 - Walsall (h) - Blackpool (a) - Shrewsbury (h) - Portsmouth (h) - Rochdale (a) - MK Dons (h) - Southend (h) - Scunthorpe (a)
Thoughts - based on form and got 3 top teams to play surely not going to make it. Although if they win next 2 maybe they can get momentum back.
Rovers 9th in form W2,D3,L1
Thoughts - I think we all know our fixtures so won't list them. 3 really hard home games coming up. 2 difficult away days. Brain says we will not be in the frame for 6th after those games but it is good to have the hope still. The next game is always crucial, but Fleetwood is a must win (I think we will draw). If we did win, and Plymouth beat Scunthorpe, Pompey could lose to Wigan, Charlton could lose to Rotherham and the table would be interesting when we face Charlton.
Conclusion - Plymouth and Peterborough to make the play offs
Final thought.......UP THE GAS

It’s really impossible to predict , nobody’s got an easy run in. We’re still in it for sure.

Cheers for the analysis, very interesting to get perspective from the other contenders positions.
We're not out of it yet. Agree that Fleetwood game is pivotal to our chances.
Not getting ahead of myself here as I realise the chances are slim but i would love it if both Rovers and Muff make the playoffs. I would love the opportunity to try and right the wrongs of our recent away game with them and wipe the smirk off both Vyners and Adams faces with a win at the mem!

Plymuff didn't seem that special last week and now have two tough games up next, will they finally hit a bad patch? Looking at Posh's run in/indifferent form I can't see how they hope can to reach the Play Offs,. although most teams above us now seem to have two or three tough games up next.

For me Monday is the big one. Fleetwood have some very very good form so will be tough.
But if we win we're either 4 points off 2 teams, or 3 points off one team. We'll have 6 games to go, all tough fixtures but 4 home matches- where we are a match for anyone.
If we win Monday- it'll at least go to the penultimate game of the season. Maybe Southend.

Big result for Pompey today, wining at Walsall, but all their remaining games are against top 11 teams apart from Bury!

That Plymouth game looks like it could be pivotal. Had we drawn that we’d only be 3pts off the play offs now. Had we hung on to our lead we’d be 1pt off.
Realistically 6 pts, a worse goal difference and 6 rivals for the two available places mean it’s almost an impossible task, in my opinion.
That’s not going to stop me looking at the table if we beat Fleetwood, mind!

I hope but I don’t expect, pretty much as I’ve always done as a Rovers fan. We talk about going on a run which would be fantastic but I think that’s what Plymouth have been on. Let’s concentrate on the next match, win at Fleetwood and then perhaps.... then concentrate on the next one. Blimey it’s always exciting following Rovers! And yes, 2nd May the Argyle match was pivotal and they are on a great run. UTG!

If we can beat Fleetwood on Monday we will equal our longest winning run in the league this season 2 bastard games!! It doesn't seem so but we have been in play off form so far this year.won 7 drawn 4 lost 3. We drew the last 2 games in 2017 so just 3 losses in 16 games, good stuff. I don't think we'll better last seasons 66 pts and will maybe finish on 62 pts and end up 11th/12th.That will be decent all things considered. Beating Fleetwood would be tiptop for now so you know what's required DC - lock and load!!!

Bet365 have us 20/1 to get into top6.
Bradford City are 8/1.
That's a whopping difference considering we are above them, on better form.
My instincts say Scunny will be the team to miss out. Plymouth seem to be having our 2007 Midas touch luck with another flukey goal yesterday in a deserved win, so it's any one/or two positions available. I'm gonna stick neck out and predict Charlton to snick in there with Plymouth.
I see us as comfortable outsiders, not good enough to challenge in play offs. We are where we will end up...8-10th. Decent season. Shipped too many stupid goals to be considered serious contenders, dc must sort this to be credible promotion candidates..
With possibly Luton, Sunderland, Brum, Barnsley next season and Accy (don't laugh, we can't beat them away!) it'll fare for a not easier replacements..

ROCHDALEEvery team except for ourselves and Scunthorpe (who are struggling anyway) have Rochdale. Rochdale had a great win on Friday vs Shrews running out 3-1 winners, were unlucky to lose at our place 3-2 and Keith Hill is a good manager. They scream a team to me who could get out of that relegation battle. Could they do us a few favours along the way I wonder?

Not sure how I'd approach the game tomorrow if I was DC, go all out for the win as this looks the easiest, on paper, of our 3 remaining away games, or try and ensure we get at least a draw as a defeat could well end any hopes of a play off spot.
