Awful news to hear.
When I was younger I was one of the mascots that ran out with the team. Austin was my favourite player and when I got to choose who I had a photo with , he seemed shocked.
Great player, I really wish him all the best

Statement from BRFC www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2018/april/kevinaustin/Former Rovers defender Kevin Austin has been in touch with another of his former clubs, Swansea City, to stress that he is not terminally ill as several reports had stated in the last day or so. Kevin has confirmed that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last June and has started treatment, which has helped stabilise his condition. He was keen to stress that Austin contacted Swansea City to inform fans that his cancer is under control and that doctors are happy with his condition. Currently a member of Scunthorpe United’s Academy set up, Kevin told the Swansea website; “I appreciate the nice messages coming from supporters and all the clubs I have played for, but I needed to let people know that the rumours being spread just aren’t true. “I have pancreatic cancer, but my doctors have said they are happy with the way things are going and it is under control. “My family is in a good place too, and I just wanted people to know the truth.” We would like to apologise to Kevin and his family for any distress our post on social media might have caused and we wish him well during his treatment and will be happy to help him and his family at any time. FYI - We [BRFPA] couldn't find out any definite info, so hadn't been able to confirm or deny the previous, unconfirmed, stories from twitter

Sad to hear of his condition but great to hear he is doing well. Yet another case of twitter rumour convincing some that everything said on their is fact!
