Sounds promising...
Dom Telford celebrates his goal against Gillingham "I can't say too much, but I do like the place. I feel like I've improved and the lads are brilliant. The gaffer has faith in his players and the atmosphere here is unbelievable.
"I can't say too much, but I've enjoyed my time here. I appreciate that [the fans have taken to me]. I thank the fans a lot because it's never easy if they don't take to you, I get a nice reception and it definitely helps, I appreciate that.
"Yeah, it does," confirmed Telford when asked about his contract running out in the summer.
"I've not really thought much about next season, I've had games coming thick and fast, so I've just been concentrating on my football. I want to be playing first team and scoring goal next season, wherever that is I'm not too sure."
Speaking after the Gillingham draw, manager Darrell Clarke also praised the striker.
"Dom's done great, he's a work in progress," said the Rovers boss.
"We'll see what happens with him come the end of the season, he's certainly got to improve his all round game. He's capable in the box definitely, that's where his strengths are. He's still a young lad as well."
Dom Telford has impressed for Rovers this season
Tough decisions await Darrell Clarke and Bristol Rovers in the summer transfer window Improving is exactly what Telford believes he has been doing all season, and he pointed to the work with assistant coach and former Premier League striker Marcus Stewart as a highlight.
"I definitely feel like I've come on and improved, it's always good to be involved in a first team environment as opposed to the [under] 23's, I'm playing against lads who are good players," said Telford.
"I've done a lot of work with Stewie - little finishes and things. I definitely feel like I've improved this season.
"I've reflected [on my season with Rovers] over the last couple of weeks and my goal to game ratio is pretty decent, although it's two sides of the coin.
"I've not played as much as I would have hoped for, but equally when i have played I've done alright, it's a weird one.
"It's always a frustrating one for any footballer who's not playing as much as he wants to. I've played in the reserve games and enjoyed them and scored goals, I've been involved in more or less all of the first team games.
"I've always been ready when the gaffer needs me to be. I think I've done alright when I've played, yeah it's been frustrating but I've enjoyed it."

From what I've seen of Dom in Development Squad games, and also of course in his limited appearances for the first team, I'd sign him up straight away. He's a hungry little terrier who knows how to score goals...shades of Jamie Cureton. I'd like to see a Harrison/Telford combination start against Southend to see how that shapes up.

So he's probably thinking like most of us then. Not sure what is promising about these comments, as to me it doesn't sound like joining us is anywhere near a done deal:
"I want to be playing first team and scoring goal next season, wherever that is I'm not too sure."

Exactly what I was thinking. However, I think he would feed better off a more dominant centre forward than Harrison. If we had a Devon White character up front I think Dom would do quite well.

''If we had a Devon White character up front I think Dom would do quite well'' So, of course, would Tom Nichols.

Would love it if we could sign Telford up, would be an great signing especially on a free transfer. He's one of those players who will score goals whatever level he plays, as he's shown in the Development Squad and First Team.
IMO he's a much better option than Nichols. While his all round game might not be as 'good', a striker is on the pitch to stay between the sticks and score goals.
Much like Gaffney, Nichols drifts around the pitch in the aim of creating something, but 1) doesn't create anything 2) doesn't actually do the job of a striker which is to SCORE. Neither will ever find their scoring boots if they continue to drift out to the wing every time we are on the attack / in possession.
We could do a lot worse this summer in terms of striker recruitment.

Plus I can't imagine his wages will break the bank if Stoke don't offer him a new deal - fingers crossed it's been Darrell's plan all along to hold Dom off of minutes in the first team in the hopes of getting him on a free

We are all aware of telford's ability, but if we did start him all season and he banged goals in for fun, either stoke would have him sign a new deal or a bigger club would snap him up for free. It's selfish on our part you could argue but how hard is it to find a proven goalscorer in today's day and age, especially one on the free too!

If we're looking for a big striker we could do a lot worse than 6ft 4in 24-year-old Nuha Marong at Atletico Saguntino in the the Spanish 2ª B - Grupo III division (3rd tier). Not only is he a beast in the air, but he is quick and has decent feet. Capped by Spain from U17-U20 level, he is on the verge of a call up to the Gambia national team. 9 goals from 21 starts is a decent return this season and his contract runs out in a couple of months. Perhaps Brian Dutton will have heard about him on his search for players abroad who would suit Rovers playing style? Well worth scouting or a trial if possible. Another decent 6ft 4in striker is 27-year-old Petar Sliskovic at Hallescher in the German 3rd tier. Good in the air and on the deck, he has decent pace too. He has scored 13 goals from 35 starts in total in the German 3rd tier and 51 goals from 65 appearances in the 4th tier. Capped by Croatia at U21 level. Another who's contract runs out in a couple of months. Perhaps Will Dubey will already know about him from his German connections?

I think pretty much every Gashead will agree with you but there's the 350K Tom Nichols conundrum !

Our chances of signing him will not be helped by Stoke’s likely relegation. Stoke probably don’t see him as a Premier League player for them just now but might take a different view if in the Championship.

Hardly anyone plays with the big "devon white" type striker now. Footballs moved on,its getting very difficult to play 2 up front in the modern game and big men are seldom able to play on their own. Eaves is a big lad but craig won virtually every header against him. I really hope dc dosnt fall into the trap of signing that type of player.
Cardiff have done well still playing that way,you know lump it to the big man etc, terrible to watch though and most successful teams dont play that way.

To find the right player is easier said than done!

In all seriousness, he's had a very good season and hopefully he can improve again next season and get even more goals. Now I'd like to see us get him tied down to a new contract.

I really hope we can get Telford permanently, truly believe he would score a lot of goals if given a regular starting place. Even if he wasn't playing alongside Devon White!

I like to think DC told him he wants to sign him up in the summer and has promised more first team opportunities. You can see why DC has preferred to give Nichols more game time to justify the price tag. Maybe the last few games he has played in has been his last chance. If Telford signs then we cant use the excuse of DC giving preference to our permanent players anymore!
