Wonder how many attendance records we set that season? We definitely set the world record for the longest ever queue for a single urinal at Aldershot....

Interesting stats.
Shows our away support as a percentage of home fans as:
17/18 9.3% 16/17 11.5% 15/16 14.0% 14/15 13.2%
So away support has declined in absolute and percentage terms.
I can understand why absolute attendances rose from Conference days to the first season in L1, and fell off a bit this season, but I'm not sure why away attendances have have fallen from 14% to 9% of those at home. That is a significant drop.
Of course, it's not just as simple as how well we're doing. It depends on how many opponents are nearby or up in the grim North.

We took 2500 to Swindon and 4000 to Coventry last season which definitely altered things. This season there were more trips up north and Portsmouth was a Tuesday night. I don’t think our away support has nessecarily declined its just who we play and when we play them that will largely determine how big the average is.

I know there were a lot of supporters standing around me in East Stand who had no intention of going to away games this season cos they thought - "we're going to lose !"
I only went to one - Shrews Away - and boy was that a stinker ! 4 nil at HT. Saw Bradford and Wimbledon on screens - again little going forward - draws at best to hope for. DC needs to get better players to give fans the belief that we can do something next season or those away crowds are going to fall again, me thinks.
UTG !

Those conference stats still impress me even today. Especially the away one.... Nothing about being a conference club impressed me. It was a blot on the clubs otherwise proud history.

I think one major issue that effects away averages, is the novelty factor of a new away ground. We took great support to Bolton and Sheffield Utd last season, and both were midweek games, so distance doesn't mean that much methinks. Not to mention that every away ground in the conference was a novelty.
I would bet a packet of sherbert that we get huge support at Sunderland next season whether it be midweek or a Saturday.
In general we have great support away from home, but we need to move on. We have outgrown the Mem, so that is the next issue that must be resolved.

We have had and always will have a proud history, nothing changes that, trying to ignore history is the mistake, everyone should learn from history and never try to forget or hide any part of history. IMHO.

Do we have a % of our away fans who don’t watch the game and are nauses😂 Just deduct the above percentages from 100% and you get those figures? So this season as an example over 90% didn't attend away games. I wonder if iFollow has had any effect on our away following this season, as it only takes 100 fans deciding to watch the match at home to hit our average away attendance? Plus we had a higher number of beambacks which also cannot be counted in the OP's figures.

Yes, I only went to Bolton, Coventry and Sheff Utd two seasons ago and only Blackburn last season. This coming season just Sunderland, unless there are new grounds in the FA Cup.

Conference season : promotion push, very strong away form. League 2 season : higher league, promotion push, very strong away form First league 1 season: higher league, away form terrrible. This season: stagnation.
I wouldn’t be too surprised with those stats, I’d be more surprised if they had stayed steady.
I hope that next season we will be top 6 and the crowds will come back.
This season we have had to embed a lot of new players - were improving in a steady way but this has meant it looks like we’ve gone back a little bit. Whilst we’ve not won any games for a while we’ve been drawing against some bloody good sides including the two teams which ran away with the top two spots. A few strong summer signings, and some good off the pitch news, and I’m very optimistic we’ll be in for a good season next year.

I think we'll see our away average increase next season with the likes of playing Luton, Wycombe, burton already confirmed. Should be a big crowd for Sunderland and possibly barnsley. Hopefully 1 of the northern teams go up in the play offs and anyone but Lincoln in league 2 I'd be happy with.
League one will probably be a mix of north and south for the first time in ages.

Two seasons of very poor away form after 2 seasons of decent away form is bound to be part of the reason for lower away following imo.
