In order to comply with a change in regulations , we have recently sent a form to all Helpline members for completion. To date returns have been a bit disappointing so we would ask all our members to return their form as soon as possible to avoid the need for further reminders.

I've posted mine back to you. Maybe an option to scan and email it would have helped, people may resent having to buy stamps and an envelope.

For GDPR, surely the option should be to return if you don't want to be contacted, and if you are happy, leave as is. That's certainly how other companies have approached it, and saves the hassle of sending a form back!

As long as you already have the explicit permission of the customer to contact them by mail (or whatever), and I assume you do, and you don't change the way you contact them, or use a method that that they have not given explicit permission for, then you don't need anything signed.

On about GDPR, did everyone get a letter or email from BRFC about this?
I do not, despite Tom Gorringe telling me that everyone was informed, provided the club had the correct email address. Clair has confirmed that the club have my correct email address, so has anyone NOT received the appropriate notification. I have asked a few Gasheads and they all say they have received nothing.
I also do not get the weekly newsletter so that concerns me that we are not getting our message across to everyone.

See the post above if the club already have our consent to contact us they don't need to ask us again, if they haven't got our consent then they can't contact us to ask for it, whether correctly, or just by accident, the club seem to have taken the right action on this occasion. It seems Helpiner needs to check the GDPR rules as he could be breaking the law or needlessly sending out letters.

Don't recall anything about GDPR though.

He also works tirelessly for the club for many years at great cost to himself in time for free... How many on here can say that Holmes ?

I was going to start a thread on this myself. Having been bombarded with emails from various companies where I had to click on a link to either stay or leave their mailing list, I did laugh to myself when the helpline letter came through, where I needed to fill in a slip by hand, cut it off, buy an envelope and stamp and then send it by post ... typical Rovers I thought (other friends I told found it hilarious).
On a serious note though, why can’t the helpline people start sorting a database of email addresses? New joiners could be asked to give theirs while existing members could be asked. Would surely save time and money in the future?
P.S. I will return my slip soon.

You do know who runs the helpline don't you ? No idea - hope I’ve not caused offence?! The helpline is run by Martyn and his good lady wife using their own computer system, which is well maintained by a excellent computer company based in Bristol Not sure they are using the latest technological advancements when comes to electronic communications

GDPR means 'general data protection regulation' for those like myself who won't have a clue what it means until looking it up

I do admire those who give up their time for the cause. More than I’m able to do. Do you know an excellent computer company then?

Given the option of wanting to be kept informed or not contacted. Simply had to click on the option required. A very clear and easy to understand email.

Had emails about GDPR from Avis, Heathrow Airport, Samsung and Transport for London on that day.
