Stoke Friend tells me he's been offered a new contract. On one hand I hope we offer him a deal but the problem is DC hardly ever plays 2 strikers these days and I can’t see him being effective out wider in a 4-3-3. Starting him every week would mean dropping Harrison or moving Harrison out wider or perhaps DC is thinking about more of the 3-5-2 but to be honest we’ve never looked good playing that way under DC. A diamond with sercombe playing behind Harrison and Telford could be lethal but where would that leave Bennet ? Sorry just thinking out loud.

Disappointing but we move on. I guess this was why DC doesn’t like developing other clubs players. It might still be worth giving him a contract offer as some young players like to move away from their parent clubs to get game time elsewhere however with the lack of opportunities we gave him last year, I would highly doubt this would be the case with Telford.

Perhaps we’ll get him on loan. Massive difference between Stokes first team squad next season and ours I’d imagine.

Well they won’t loan him out to a championship side and he’s proved he can do it at league 1 so I think if he goes to league 1 we’ve got a chance. He and stoke will probably want him to play more though and I don’t know if DC is the kind of manager to guarantee that. We’ll see.

I dont think he's proved anything in L1, DC didnt give him the chance to.

He wasn't good enough for the championship then and I'm not sure he is now, I think he'd be decent in league one however. I'd have him back on a free transfer but I would look elsewhere if a loan was the only deal we could do.

Stoke HAVE offered him new deal, see link in League 1 transfer thread. No brainer for him then. It all depends what they've offered me if he's on a low trainees wages at Stoke then he may be able to get more as a first team squad player at Rovers, although that maybe wishful thinking.

Perhaps it is why we don't score many goals when we only play one forward up front

Perhaps it is why we don't score many goals when we only play one forward up front We were the 7th top scorers in League 1 last season, with 60 goals. Unfortunately, we were also 7th in the goals conceded column, with 66. There were times when Ellis played on his own up front, but equally these were generally against the better passing sides such as Wigan, Blackburn, etc when we needed to be able to compete in midfield. Shame about Telford, although of course being offered a contract doesn't mean he will sign it. I'd like us to take a chance on him if he does become available, although ideally would still be on the lookout for another striker too, with potentially career defining seasons ahead for Gaffers and Nichols.
