Perhaps it is why we don't score many goals when we only play one forward up front I can’t remember too many times we played only one forward up front last season and when we did do it against Oxford away from home it was actually quite successful.

Plus I recall it was conceding too many goals which were the issue last season, particularly up to the turn of the year.

Has anyone thought that he may not accept that offer?

Has anyone thought that he may not accept that offer? Why do you think he wouldn’t accept it? Do you think he looking for a Premier League club now Stoke have lost their place? Do you think he is going to get any offers that are better?

Do you think he is going to get any offers that are better? I'd agree that he is likely to sign for Stoke given the status of the two clubs and the money they would presumably pay him. However, the idealistic bit of me says he's a young lad making his way in the game who might, just might, have the brains to realise that he will develop quicker in League 1 than in the reserves at Stoke. Who know's what conversations Darrell's had with him...

As I’ve said on another thread though I think if Stoke had stayed up we’d be signing him on a free this’summer. But new manager Gary Rowett knows all about the Championship and will not have made the offer of a new contract to Dom if he didn’t think he was going to be in his plans.

Do you think he is going to get any offers that are better? All depends what they've offered him, if it's a 1 year deal on the same wages just so they can seek a transfer fee if he leaves, then perhaps with a signing on fee we can offer him a better deal over 2 years, along with a guarantee of being a member of a first team sqauad. If he ever updates is Insta profile pic, like Sweeney's just done, then we'll know he's unlikely to be coming back.

Sweeney is not such a great loss. Really bizarre how his form changed. He hasn’t been offered a new contract at Stoke though as he is still under contract. Good job for him I’d say!

A clear sign he won't be coming back, obvs.

I wonder if we will offer him a contract? I think if DC really wants him, he can get him.

Depends, Telford might fancy his chances of breaking into the first team in the Championship, at a club who can pay him more and have better facilities?
I'm still trying to work out why he got little game time here though. You play your best players whether they are on loan or not. If he was worse than Nichols then DC wouldn't want him anyway.
Plenty of other options out there regardless.

Perhaps it is a little more straightforward and just good business sense by Stoke;
Where a professional player, under the age of 24, has been offered a new contract by his club (subject to certain requirements that the offer must meet set out in Rule 64.3 of the Football League Rules) and he rejects that offer in order to take up the opportunity to sign for another club, compensation will be payable.

Shouldn't imagine it would have much bearing tbh. Are you telling me they are going to withdraw their contract offer because of if?

I was thinking more along the lines of potential game time.

Do you think he is going to get any offers that are better? You'd be surprised. If he had a decent offer from us it would be interesting. Some football players have rejected short contracts at 'bigger' clubs in order to play real football & advance their career that way. Everyone is different. And having a happy time at a club (or not..) goes a long way with some players. Also sometimes the wages young players get can be very low. A while back Portsmouth's wages were shown & they had a range from £5,000 a week (partly a throwback from dropping down the league's quickly) to £400 a week for the young ones. Dom may not be that low though because he was bought from Blackpool so would have negotiated a contract on that basis, rather than as an emerging youth from within the club.
