It's the England team, Jim, but not as we know it.

Thought we were very sloppy army times. Too many wayward passes and too static. We were aimless with too many passes for passes sake. No penetratoin.

We haven't got players of the calibre of Terry, Adams, Campbell, Ferdinand, Neville, Cole these day's so we can't expect world class defensive performances. I hope Southgate and Holland are working hard on their defensive organisation and make the best of what we have. I agree that tougher tests are to come and we just have to hope for the best. Pre tournament I thought quarter finals was achievable, I still think that but you never know, a favourable draw, a bit of luck and no penalty shootouts and we could get a semi 😃

If this game is any indication playing football in Panama must be brutal! Would you want to play football with Escobar?

On to the next project. Germany look dodgy at the back. So have a fair few other teams. Iran should have got something from the Spain game. At the end of the day the aim is to score more than them and this team creates a lot of chances so I'm cautiously optimistic.

On to the next project. The upside is that the English defence are used to playing with, or against, the majority of the Belgian attack every week in the Prem, so should know what to expect. The downside is that the Belgian defence play with, or against, the English attack every week in the Prem as well!

Still plenty of permutations but if Germany are to finish second in their group would the best outcome v Belgium be a draw? Pick up one booking to end up tied on goal difference, head to head, goals scored and fair play. We can bemoan our luck at losing the toss of a coin but have a potentially far easier route to the semi finals !!!!!!

If the best permutation is to come second can we get Robert Green in if our 3 keepers have injuries 😂

The World Cup is about building momentum and confidence. Planning to draw (or even lose) is not congruent with that. I would like to see both England and Belgium going for it, we need to have a proper game as the last two (if we are honest) weren't particularly competitive. What has traditionally happened to England is that they qualify so easily for the tournament that when they get there they are shocked that they cannot 'cruise it. Let's have some good comparative games.

Its just nice to have an exciting young hungry team to watch again. A team that is being managed properly. Of course we could easily still get beaten by a team such as Colombia in the next round but everything appears to be going in the right direction. Especially with the youth teams doing so well last couple of years. Of course, they just need to get some game time either in the premier league, or elsewhere.
But the future is bright, and who knows how far we can go say in four years time?
