I've seen plenty of players who have gone for big money off the back of one good season which makes it more annoying how little we got for Bodin and Taylor.
Take the lad McNulty, failed in L1 twice before, has one decent season in L2 then gets snapped up by a Championship club for over a million. Crazy.
Lesson is to make sure your better players, or potentially your better players, are tied down.
By holding a gun to their head until they sign the contract? Other clubs seem to manage it.

another example of how we keep letting our top assets go for peanuts and other clubs holding out for better deals. I appreciate we're not man united and we need to sell to keep going but its how we always let them go for * all the time that annoys me and yet we see club after club get much better deals for less talented players. Bodin - under a million, how many wingers score 20+ goals and get let go for less than 1 million +? Lambert - 1 million! Absolute joke that was, he single handily took saints to the prem!! should of got 3million + for him if not more with add-ons. two examples of how poorly we're ran from the top and I could carry on all day! fair play to Bradford for getting a half decent deal on a very average player. So Bradford got a half decent deal but we sold ourselves short...? I'd sooner have Wyke than Ellis in my team in this league. The fact EH has gone to a Championship surely means he has a greater value as he's stepped up a league. Goals wise Wyke's record is very similar to Harrison's, 20 league goals in 18 months.

Perhaps our players agents aren't very good

Wyke is a better player than Ellis. Sorry, but he just is.
When compared with this one, all of a sudden our fee received for Ellis looks pretty good!

It is beyond me how anyone could say the opposite.
Opinions eh?
PS - My opinion is backed up by scoring records .. ;-)

PS - My opinion is backed up by scoring records .. ;-) He scored a few more in the league than Ellis last season, but his scoring record also included a hat-trick against our shoddy defence, a backline that included a centre back playing in one of his first few games at this level having stepped up 5 divisions and a playeŕ now playing National League North football. Anyone who watched the reverse fixture at the Mem could surely see what a one dimensional player he is. Good in the air, but lacking pace, mobility and any type of skill on the deck.

Wyke is a good league 1 CF. Not sure he’s destined for too much more, but he’ll do ok for Sunderland.

Eoin Doyle has replaced Wyke at Bradford so that's another potential striker off our list.

He is currently having a medical at Sunderland for a fee of £600,000 rising to £1,000,000. How the hell can we compete with figures like this? I suppose they have now lost interest in Doidge at Forest Green? ?? Pretty easy just reinvest Harrison's money plus £400K bonus if we get promoted? Although if we can't replace Harrison why did we let him go so cheaply? Accrington seems to playing a harder ball game with Ipswich over Kayden Jackson. But reinvesting all of the Harrison money doesn't reduce the debt. On another forum you talked about wanting to be self sustainable and not having to rely on an owner's wealth. We won't achieve that by spending all the money we receive. I do agree that Darrell is entitled to be backed with a percentage of the sales made, but we can't just ignore the overall situation. Anyway, spending that money on a player would likely smash our wage structure, which surely cannot be a good thing.

They get far larger attendances and have been in the prem a couple times. A lot easier for them. Easy to put names on the internet. They are trying let’s keep the “I know best” till the windows done.

But Sunderland are under huge pressure to get out of this league at the first attempt, hence the value of a Wyke to them at this time.
Both valuations look about right to me.
