Perhaps we would have been better off using the money we pay him towards signing a new number 9...?
I thought when he was announced we wouldn't have any more summers of frustration and disappointment in the transfer market, however, it feels like we have been through this disappointment many times before.
Feels to me he has failed already.
I just hope my season ticket card thing works ok and my £4 sausage roll doesn't disappoint.

Come off it. Most gasheads would have been happy until we sold Ellis. We’ve signed some great players we’re just struggling in one position because we just don’t have the cash for the players we’d like.

What a ridiculous comment, we've signed some really promising players and on the whole look stronger than we did last year. A decent striker arriving on monday will round off a good summers recruitment, certainly no disappointment for me. Deals still take time to be thrashed out head of recruitment or no head of recruitment. TW has no power of what budget is given to him, blame the board for that if you insist on having a moan.

As others have said we have signed some decent looking players. Why not wait and see who the striker is we signing first as well. It's a 46 game season. If we have to wait until next week, to get the right player, so be it. Would rather play 45 games with the right man. Than 46 games with anyone, just to sign him quickly.

For £4.80 you can get 20 sausage rolls at Tesco, AND they tell you what meat is in them (Pork)

People seemed to disagree when I posted this in August. Wonder what he has lined up for us in January....

I wondered how long it would take for someone to ask'what is the head of recruitment doing,or been doing since he came on payroll?'

TBF, it is a fair enough question.

So he's either recommending some of this crap or he is only recommeding players we cant afford. Either way, pretty pointless.

I would imagine the majority of our summer targets were agreed before Widdrington joined, and over the longer term we will begin to see the effect of having a more established recruitment team

I must be daft as a brush then because I'm struggling to see the value he has brought to the club. It doesn't matter how much money the club has got, an HoR should have enough contacts and knowledge of players that he can link us up with the best players for our budget even if we are talking players available on a free from the lower leagues. Early days yet but sadly the fact that we have signed his son and were outbid for a poor player by Widdrington's old club seems an inauspicious start.

Would seem to be a total waste of money. Another waste of money a CEO who most of us thought was brought in to oversee stadium and training ground matters. However all we get from him is one page in the match day programme talking about that days game, previous games and our next opponents. Not a mention about any other matters that might be of interest to the fanbase as a whole. Surely our Chairman could easily cover all of the above and although not a favourite of some, at least he cannot be called the invisible man as it would seem our CEO is.

I think we would be better going back to the bad old days, ragbag rovers era, when all we could sign was nonleague rubbish , the likes of Ian Holloway, Garry Penrice, Nicky Tanner ,Mangotsfield, Mickey Barrett ,Shirehampton, Nigel Martin , St,Blazey {think], Archie Stevens, Melksham, Paul Randall , Glastonbury ect. Think we should be thankful now we can spend money on the likes of Tom Nichols and Stephan Payne. I wonder who the head of recruitment was back in those dark old days? ?

We were not looking for a CEO in the first place. Starnes himself is reported to have told a lad on the other forum after the QPR game that he was looking for a job and as Wael is a mate of his Wael created the role of CEO - to do God only knows what seeing as we already have a chairman and a president but it certainly doesn't seem like he was head-hunted because he managed to build a stand at Home Park. He told this lad he had so far done a lot of community work so I am wondering if we are mis-reading his title and it is in fact Community Engagement Officer...

Give the guy a chance. He has had one window and we don't really know what input he had in the decision making process at that point as he joined us fairly late. Our scouting infrastructure by all accounts has been poor for a long time now and and we need someone to sort it out and head up the network. It's a long term process and hopefully he will prove to be a shrewd appointment.
