TW was promoted to DoF when BG departed so it must be a bigger role than just finding players for PT to sign as some posters are suggesting:

Easiest job in the world - you aren’t actually accountable for anything and when your players fail to deliver you can blame it on the manager and get a promotion. Exactly.

Why? He doesn’t negotiate the deals or specify what kind of player is needed, that falls on Tisdale and Starnes. What does he do then?

Pretty sure in the past it was suggested the recruitment department deal with contracts etc, that suggests once TW identifies players after PT's convinced them to sign for the club TW's dept then deal with agreeing deals and also drawing up contracts/carrying out medicals etc.

Weird to turn on TW.
Most of us were happy with the summers work.
I think were looking at the wrong position. Should be focused on Midfielder

I’m struggling here. It wasn’t so long ago that the forum was waxing lyrical about what a transfer window we had. People have wanted Joe Day here for years and he showed enough for a champ team to take him. Signed gills captain and watched Steve Evans have a meltdown Got Oz from Charlton McCormick has impressed Snared Nicholson despite interest from his beloved hearts Got Westbrooke who played a significant part in Cov’s promotion Grant is a developing prospect in his first full season in Centre Mid Hanlan is a developing prospect in his first full season as a 9. Tutonda has shown enough to have been worthy of a free. Harries - jury very much out fair enough - may have been desperation trying to find a left footed CB. I don’t think he’s as bad as what some people say, but he’s got an awful lot to learn. It’s not like we’ve signed journeyman here for a pay cheque. If you look at the above, and add in what we had in the building, that’s not a team who should be struggling for relegation. Once the players are recruited then it’s no longer up to TW to bring the best out of them. Of course we need a striker, but how do we know what goes on and who we have been in for. People have freedom of speech but people also need to have perspective, and get behind the club and not attack people who seem to want to be taking the club forward. . Edit: sorry forgot JD - quality little player All this adds up to 12 defenders; 12 midfielders, 3 forwards. One experienced at this level. One not experienced, and the other experienced at Bath Citys level

The truth is they tried to change the team in one season. It never works, you should change the team over 3 seasons or so. What did w**ker Starnes say? We are going to change the clubs DNA (from winners to losers) I think we would all like to see usin the championship one day, but not the way this lot are running the club (I dont blame Wael, he just keeps employing the wrong people

(She's got a fantastic track record, by the way!)

Weal finances the club so the buck must stop with him if we can't afford a striker.

We literally need a subscription to a scouting database?? Scouting databases are rudimentary and don’t consider how he would the player would fit in our system, their personality, recommendations from ex coaches etc. There is a reason why every club has either a chief scout or a head of recruitment. Even if we were going to use a database we would still need someone to sift through all the data to find players that match with what the manager is looking for. Shooting your argument in the foot there - we are where we are arguably because some of the squad were statistically very good but don't have much strength of character especially when the team is on the slide. So it seems like the database was relied upon too heavily by those in charge of bringing players to the club...

The usual defence seems to be "It's not his fault he offered Garner Messi and Ayunga and Garner chose Ayunga" Man, just think of the world class side we would have if Widdrington was allowed to choose who we sign instead of the manager always picking the duff ones.

He watches games every weekend, has a complex scouting network to gain data from, speaks to coaches and scouts from other clubs, he’s said all of that in previous interviews. I’m not sure anyone can say, oh well TW must rely too heavily on databases when none of us as fans know his daily work schedule or the precise way he formulates his scout reports.

Why on Earth would anyone pay 2 million for Nicholson?! Cuz he is mint! and I reckon as the season plays out, his value will definitely be recognised and in the summer our phone will be red hot with offers. Do you not rate him? I thought you were referring to today! I mean he seems to have the most potential, but I'm mindful that he's not played a great deal because of injury and he seems to have a habit of a glorious miss rather than scoring so at the moment I don't think he's done anywhere near enough to look like a big money sale. If he can stay fit and turn the fine margins into goals then we'll be in a better position to stay up and flog him on, I'm not sure we'll see that consistency though worry that he'll go down as a "good player...on his day" sort of player.

My point is if he goes to watch them in person, then how have we ended up with a team devoid of character? Was he looking for mentally weak footballers because if so he seems to have struck gold.

Weird to turn on TW. Most of us were happy with the summers work. I think were looking at the wrong position. Should be focused on Midfielder Because everyone was wetting themselves at the fact wed signed some inexperienced kids from premier league and championship squads. They've gone on to prove nothing. If we fail to get a striker in tonight, we're likely going to get relegated. Widdringtons part in Garners recruitment and thus failure to sign a reasonable number of attacking players means he's culpable much more so than Tisdale if we go on to get relegated.

I think it’s been no worse than it’s usually been. We’ve made some good signings during his tenure Jaakkola, JCH, Hanlan, Nicholson etc and some bad ones Harries, Little, Liddle, Adeboyejo etc. I think the problem this time was Garners specification for the types of players he wanted, the massive unbalance in the squad and the way they’ve been coached. There was none of those issues during Coughlan’s tenure.

Well, it's not an accident we are fighting relegation in February is it? Whose fault is that? Sorry, but for me you can't divorce Widdrington from that and put it all at Garner or Tisdale's door.
