Regarding craig and the back four in general if we concede lots of goals this season again the blame will be all darrell clarkes imo. Hes signed several players and is trying to sign a striker but it seems hes made a decision to stay with the centre-backs already at the club. If they struggle he wont be able to shift the blame elsewhere imo. Fantastic argument. Why don't we spend all our budget on fixing the defence, who needs strikers? After all I quite like the thought of a 5-5-0 formation.

So he spent his budget as he wanted and decided the centre-backs were fit to go. With harrison gone he has to replace him with whatever percentage of the fee he is allowed. So back to my original point which is if the defence struggles again this season then it will come back to the managers decision to strengthen other areas.

Atleast we have enough defenders to play, they may not be performing to the best of their ability at the moment but hopefully they'll be doing a lot of work on the training ground to put that right. You can work on defensive work, organisation, communication etc, quite often with a striker you've either got it or you haven't. I believe you cannot teach finishing ability you either have it or you don't. Movement, vision etc I think can be coached into players. "get yer *ing head up Tom" On the other hand we have 2 strikers, one of which I'm not even going to talk about and the other is unproven at this level. If you can't score goals you're not going to win games, I understand what you're saying but atleast it can be worked on without spending huge amounts of money. Whereas the striker situation is different, it is essential that we bring in a goal scorer.

So you wouldn't have bothered replacing Brown then? Didn't DC try that v Mansfield and we all know how that worked out!

This forum is like a punch & Judy show, with many agendas present ,(rather than evidence).
Surely the reality is somewhere in between?
Craig is potentially quite costly for what you get, and CBs have changed quite a lot since he was young. But he was an experienced signing.
Bennett certainly has the skills but not yet the end product. Will be interesting to see how he progresses.
Both came in very, very late. Can hardly blame fans for being concerned when they were told the window had shut & nothing official had been confirmed.

Im saying he might regret not strengthening the defence more than just signing the left-back. Its Awkward i suppose because lockyer is captain and played in 2 promotions and craig is on a good salary. But the stand out weakness of rovers since we have been back in league one is the amount of goals we have let in.

What is also worrying is that on numerous occasions Harrison was our most effective defender, particularly at set pieces. Who's going to head the ball clear from corners now?!
