Farnborough's new bespoke doesn't have those awful poles in the way. It's not bespoke and has been there a number of years and is still not finished ! haha makes me feel a little better! 😜

That would depend on the span, depth and weight of the roof. Would imagine that a canvas roof like the South Stand was very doable. I'm given to understand that the wind can be a major problem in the design of that type of roof irrespective of what it is covered in. I would not want you to witness from your seat in the south stand, 350 Gasheads being tipped backwards into the adjoining gardens! If we draw city at home in the cup (FA obviously) then put them in there ... and remove the struts.

It's not so much the weight of the structure that's the issue, it's holding it down. The wind load / suction uplift on the roof structure will be the governing factor, the poles are a very efficient and cost effective way of tying the front of the roof down, given it is supposed to be a cheap (and temporary 😉) structure I can understand the club not going for cantilevered roofs. The poles will only keep the roof in place they won't stop it blowing over, it's like most things at Rovers apart from senior appointments, all done on the cheap. The only thing we seem to have spent decent money on his the pitch and I'm not sure we'll even benefit from that. Smile, it might never happen you know.

Just a suggestion... I can't imagine that the stand is at all bespoke based in that design. Looks like an off the shelf solution to me. but as this is all temp, more than happy with it....

This whole thread sums it all up.
Compare where we thought we might be when the owners took over, and look at where we are now.
Debating metal vs canvas roofs, some being happy with a bit of painted plywood, losing all our best players and signing cast-offs and risks, treading water at best in L1 with no real prospect of promotion, no news from the owners, no new stadium, no training ground, no plans for the future, a real risk of losing DC, season ticket sales down, prices up, attendances down,
Not quite what some of us had hoped for in those early days.
If the rest of you are happy with where we are now, then you must be easily pleased.
My opinion, or whine, is that you are deluding yourselves.

With the way some folk on here go on I honestly think they would prefer us to be non league as it would legitimise their negativity and constant moaning.

Maybe we expected a bit more, but what has been done os more than the nothing the previous boards did, whilst stadium dreams were chased and the ground we play in completely neglected

We are not going to get a new stadium. The Mem will not be fully re-developed. 'Temporary' tent stands are all we have to look forward to. No new training ground. The club will be standing still, while the rest of the football world moves forward. How long will the club survive in that scenario?

Although the stand is taller and wider than the previous stand I did expected a bit more. It is clear the stand type was restricted by cost as it is meant to be self funding, but planning would have also bean an issue as temporary buildings often have to be removed within 28 days so to allow a building to stay longer their would be restrictions on the structure of the building and size, so a cantilever type stand would probably have required planning permission. Tom G did say to me that planning issues were partly the reason for delaying installation. From AJIB accounts it is clear that the family do not have the money to finance major improvements for the club, so I cannot understand why they don't do a share release or ask for others to join the board and put money into the club. They probably don't have any more money than Higgs had to put into the club and like Higgs who married into a family of well off builders Wael has one arm tied behind his back as he has to rely on the rest of the family to help with finance.

Blimey, we are/were never going to win a beauty competition at the Mem. But I suspect it’s job is to be filled by 400 (?) paying about £22 every fortnight, about £180,000 this season to increase income. Probably nearer £200k once they buy things so the thoughts behind it isn’t exactly rocket science, it’s all about income. UTG!

I'm proud of Bristol Rovers and proud to be a fan btw, very sorry to hear you are not. If you're so embarrassed, why do you still follow the gas?
