Well done DC....
EASTLEIGH head to Vanarama Conference leaders Barnet tomorrow blighted by the worst spate of injuries manager Richard Hill has ever experienced.
James Constable is out with foot ligament damage while fellow frontman Jack Midson missed training after coming off with a shoulder injury in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers.
But most concerning of all is news that recent signing Jamie Turley has taken a knock on the arm he broke during the summer.
The club are awaiting medical advice regarding the England C defender, who has not played since his man-of-the-match debut against Braintree two weeks ago.
Turley sat out last Saturday’s 3-0 defeat against Wrexham through illness and took a blow to his arm in training on Monday.
“He knocked it falling over and we took him straight out of training so he could get it checked out thoroughly and it looks like it’s put him back few weeks,” confirmed Hill.
Eastleigh signed Turley from under the noses of Bristol Rovers while Darrell Clarke’s side were awaiting a doctor’s report on the player’s arm. The Spitfires, who had been chasing the 24-year-old since May, had their own tests carried out which confirmed he was fit to play.
“This is a blow because the medical tests we had done on Jamie before we signed him gave him the all-clear,” said Hill. “We did our due diligence and everything indicated he was fit.”
-----
Obviously they didn't check it thoroughly enough. If he was all clear it wouldn't have affected him.
Not signing crocks. No long contracts. No journeyman mercenaries. Attacking football. I hope DC is at the club a long time.

I'm trying not to get too carried away with DC, but just about every criticism levelled at him is being refuted, and this is another example of good handling by him. I don't wish Turley any ill, but however he turns out now, clearly Rovers were right not to take him on.

just as interesting as the emboldened bits is this... " The Spitfires, who had been chasing the 24-year-old since May..".
hmmm. Wonder if he kept in touch with them. It did seem rather hasty that he just failed to turn up one Friday and had already signed for Eastleigh.

It just makes a nice change to feel that some other club is the mug and we are the wise ones. Eerie.

Whatever happens we will always know he wanted to play for us, we just didn't want to pay him until we knew he was fit and ready. Eastleigh will now be throwing money down the drain for at least a few weeks, but he needs that money and I guess that's fair enough. He couldn't wait any longer but that's not our problem.

We have our own problem in balanta, guess DC was willing to take more of a risk on an attacking option.

Sounds like Turley has been rushed back ahead of schedule. DC looks to have done the right thing with this one, which is refreshing as usually we are the ones signing injured players. Is Turley on a deal until the end of the season?

DC offered him a contract earlier in the summer but he chose to stay and try earn a deal at Crewe... Me thinks the board made the required funds available to him when we lost to Braintree.

He just needed to sharpen up, as far as we know. Then he was injured in training, which can happen to anyone (eg Man Utd and Arsenal). It's not the same as signing someone carrying an injury. Let's wait and see... he may be very good in a month or two, when we might need him.

Yes, I am pretty happy at the decision making here. It does show there is, at last, someone who is not prepared to take anyone onboard who does not FULLY satisfy the criteria of fitness and commitment necessary. Well played DC, very well played indeed

We are in the fortunate position of not needing to take risks on players in desperation. Well done DC for that and best wishes for a speedy recovery to all injured players
