Darrell Clarke: four promotions. Lee Johnson: zero promotions. No question that DC is the better manager, it's just the fact that we're on a bad run that any of this is being discussed at the moment. This isn't an anti City thing. I think they've had some very good managers. Lee Johnson is a decent manager who appears to be improving with experience, but to compare him with Clarke when we consider what the latter has actually achieved is laughable. I see your point but it’s probably my bias that’s not allowing me to agree with you. I think Clarke is a very good manager and has done a very good job with rovers. However, I do think the championship is one of the hardest leagues to gain promotion, with parachute payments bringing a lot of money to select teams and risks being taken (suck as wolves last year and forest this year, though I don’t think forests will be successful). They’re both promising young managers with a few defiencys which is to be expected with their inexperience. Definitely agree with your point about the Championship being an incredibly tough league to get out of. For all that, I genuinely believe that City will one day do it. Whether that will be under Johnson is up for debate but he does seem to be building a team that can keep improving year on year. City seem finally to have shed their reputation for being a bit of a car crash waiting to happen and Johnson's sensible level headed managenent has surely played a big part in that. He is faced this year with the same problem that Clarke has in that he's had to sell three of his best players in Reid, Flint and Bryan. The difference of course though is that Johnson has proper money to spend to replace them so for him, the challenge is getting those signings right. We'll never know of course but would he cope with Darrell's financial constraints? Equally, would Darrell thrive with the kind of money that Johnson has to spend? It's an interesting debate, but I'm still with DC (as you'd expect!).

He was the guy who said last year that he would not watch the Gas again until DC was gone. But would not let be borrow his season ticket as he was not going to games. I was keeping my season ticket as I though the board will see sense and get rid of DC last season then I would have used it again as far as this season us concerned while he is still there I am not getting one who would you replace him with? I like dc but think he can’t take us any further,it seems like we miss out on a lot of players and can’t see it being the training facilities that put them off If teams like fleetwood can attract players with their sh**e support why can’t we with our good support If I was a player it would be what I’m playing in front of on a match day not what the training ground is like

Dc is the sort of person you’d want in the trenches with you he’s not a quitter and is a genuine hard working bloke. To suggest he wants the sack is ludicrous and disrespectful to the man who has dragged our club up from the conference.

I suspect most players choose a club based not on what they're playing in front of, but on how much they are being paid. Just like most of us would when faced with job offers.

I would not know but obviously you do

Never happened, Joeyb kept coming back to the gas time and time again as he loved the square pegs in round holes too much. You'll never stay away
I've been down the mem once since we lost 4-o at Shrewsbury that was the last straw for me the only reason I went to one afterwards was due to a family birthday

I do think a lot of managers success and failures come from other staff. The scouts and other coaches surely play important parts as they identify targets, help improve players etc. I think that very few mangers would do as admirable a job as Darrell Clarke with rovers but whether that has a lot to do with other people involved i have no idea. You may know more than me with regards to this however I know with Lee Johnson that he gets a lot of criticism/praise that should be given to other people and think this is the same with all managers. Especially with transfers managers get the blame of it works poorly but the praise if it goes well. I personally feel Johnson is the man to take us forward but this is a VERY controversial topic amongst city supporters, as you’d expect.

Paulpirate, players spend the majority of their time at the training ground and such facilities think you’re overlooking that. I’d imagine no. of fans on a Saturday plays no role in a players decision to join a club: Money (& contract length) Location Facilities Prospects Probably in that order, same with anyone in a normal job

The point of the post was that Clarke signed a 5 year contract on the back of promises from Wael re the new stadium, training ground, playing budget etc which obviously wasn’t true.
Does he hang about for another 4 seasons with no chance of progressing the team, and coming under fire from fans every week and damaging his reputation. Or accelerate his departure by getting an early season sacking and probably get a pay off.
I’m not saying he is, but if he is, he couldn’t do it any better!
Don’t forget he tried to sign Bakayoko who came on as sub for Coventry and was then subbed off again. We couldn’t even land him!

He came on as a 5th min substitute for an injury and went off around 70 mins so effectively played as much time as most of our match starting players. It's not like he came on at half time and went off on 60 mins is it.

Are you trying to insinuate DC is intentionally trying to sign bad players in order to do badly and get the sack? Pathetic is that’s what you’re getting at. We have a head of recruitment who I’d imagine is the one identifying and brining the players in based on outlines from DC. The board or whoever then negotiate and it’s down to them to then get the deal done.

From Carlisle forum: “The true cost of Jack Bonham 2017/18 If ever there was a decision made by a manager which should cost him his job - the decision to bring Bonham into the club and to persist with picking him to start is up there. I make it Bonham's mistakes, poor play and abysmal judgement have cost us points on 14 occasions this season - potential wins becoming draws, potential draws becoming defeats. That's a total of 24 points we've flogged directly due to Bonham. It is, or course, unreasonable to suggest a tier four goalkeeper isn't going to make any errors. However, if Bonham had performed adequately in only half of these games (and we're talking only "adequately" not "excellently"), we'd be looking at 12 more points. I can't think of anything he's done I wouldn't expect a youth team player being capable of doing.” Read more: gasheads.org/thread/7692/loan-keeper#ixzz5PPK0EfpK

I don’t understand how said poster can call himself a gashead. Constantly slating the manager, literally buzzing when we lose a game, and to top it off through choice (Have no issue with fans who can’t attend due to circumstances) he doesn’t attend games because results aren’t going our way. Lol, I’m taking a break from this place and in the meantime hopefully it doesn’t become even more poisonous and get back to the players/management. I see a lot of posters who were regular contributors before I took the dive have also stopped. If DC leaves or gets sacked we’re almost certainly relegated given the current circumstances and leadership - some of you really need to be careful what you wish for. Trollope season 3 incoming.
