Could someone explain to me why Runaway and Sweet Caroline are in the ‘warm up’ playlist. Hardly inspiring! Also, why sing Irene when we have a corner? Beggars belief!

Surely there is no right or wrong time to sing Irene.... I never really given it much thought really, but surely anytime is a good time?

Regarding Runaway by Del Shannon from memory, I seem to remember MC Keith at Twerton announce that every time he played it we seemed to win and from then on it got played all the time. Obviously, its luck is not quite working at the moment!

I actually wrote some music for the purpose of run out music for the club but I didn't have the confidence to approach them. It can be found on Spotify. Its 'Knights Templar' on an an album called 'Free Picking by Jon Andrews.

Runaway is a memory from Twerton and was started by a friend of mine, a Gashead and one of the world's biggest collectors of Del Shannon. He used to pester Keith Valle to play it and when he did my friend bitterly complained to him that he had played the wrong version! So there after my friend used to personally hand him the version he wanted played, pick it up after the game and present it to him again at the next game and so on. It coincided with a good run of results, don't tell my mate that who to this day believes our success at Twerton was all down to Del Shannon and his version of Runaway.

For us older supporters who used to trapse to Twerton Park, Runaway holds a very special place in our hearts. Was great when they started playing it again at the Mem. Caroline just seems to be played at any sporting event these days, from Darts to Boxing.

Sweet Caroline gets played every game at the Mem cos people continue to sing along.
A part of me dies inside when the blackthorn end booms out the chorus louder than a rendition of irene during the match

I don't get why we play sweet Caroline. Doesn't get fill me with any excitement or inspiration.
I want some modern upbeat music. Something that the players might like and get fired up by

We should definitely ditch the repetitive nonsense and look at freshening it up
It was mentioned on here recently that Idles had a section of a video filmed at the mem.....
Now there's a band
Get em playing Danny Nedelko......
YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH......
My Super gas heroes.... (or something like that)

(or something like that) They played Danny Nedelko at half time. Finally something half decent was played. I'd already lost all enthusiasm by the that point though as yet again Sweet Caroline was played. It's an absolute disgrace of a song.

The problem is, we are bound to have Radio 2 fodder because the playlist has to appeal to all age groups. Never going to please a 20yr old and a 70yr old with music! I would never want to have to chose a playlist for a football match!! Still no excuse for Caroline though.

Yes it's a difficult balance, the same problem as bands get in the local pub as the local pub and a football match aren't music venues. I have never understood why they play the same few tunes though. Maybe Tom will read this and mix it up.

I may well be in the minority here but I rather like Sweet Caroline. Reminds me of the build-up before the Dagenham & Redbridge promotion match (was this the first time it was played?) and also some splendid evenings at the Hillfields Park Youth Club discos in the early 1970s. It was also played at my partner’s aunt’s funeral recently but I thought better of singing along. Runaway is pretty awesome too, Del Shannon being one of my favourite artists.
Showing my age again but I do enjoy early 1970s Glam Rock and Trojan Ska music. Memories of Eastville no doubt.
All down to personal musical taste I suppose.
