I love how a thread about shouting abuse at women turns into blokes complaining about feminism and demanding men should get more respect.I think you are reading your own agenda into that post because that isn't what I meant at all. Read it again carefully and maybe it will click... You were suggesting that Hugo's respect for women somehow came at the cost of his respect for people generally.

So what are the authorities doing about it? ....and the stewards and police just stare ahead................ Worse still "Eventually her companion swaps standing position to deflect some attention away from the woman, after he was talking out of confronting the Luton fans by a security guard." I guess the fans know full well the police are never going to take action against 100 or so fans all chanting the same thing but if one just wolf whistled the same girl on the street he could be arrested and charged if she made a compliant!

No you won't you're just getting confused by the recent tabloid fuckabout in regard to some proposed law changes. fullfact.org/law/wolf-whistling-about-become-illegal/

Not him specifically it was about the message itself of "respect women" rather than "respect everyone" but either way if you understood what I was getting at then how does the message of "respect everyone" relate to blokes complaining about feminism?

Up to the age of 10 I was brought up around domestic violence then an absent father from then on. I'm sorry to hear that but I would hope that you learned to treat everyone with respect rather than singling out a particular gender. Too many issues these days are boiled down to the colour of skin and/or gender and/or sexual orientation when hate and disrespect has no colour, gender or sexual identity. I believe I do treat everyone fairly but it's very difficult to shake the ingrained need to protect women when throughout your formative years you were utterly powerless to do so. All that aside, I am really sad at the number of people who seem ok with this.

Fair enough - I'm happy to admit it really annoys me when it looks like the message of "Be a good human being" is co-opted into being a dig at feminism. If being a good person is not just about the best lesson you can be taught then we may as well all pack up and go home!

My ex had the same "does she take it up the arse" chants from some away fans around the back of the dribuild stand years ago. We just laughed it off and I gave the thumbs up to confirm that indeed she did. They seem to pick on the more attractive ladies so it can be seen as a compliment of sorts!? Don't think I'd view "She's got Chlamydia" as a compliment!
Depends where you live. In BS3 they would probably take is as a badge of honour!

From a woman's point of view, if I were to take that behaviour at face value, I would have those blokes down as a bunch of knobs who were clearly just there to make trouble if they were more interested in watching me than watching the game. I think that what would annoy me most though would be finding out afterwards that the incident had been used to bolster page views for The Star, home of 'journalists' who refer to this as a 'lone' woman and then say in the next breath that her companion tried to step in.
However, I do know that things look different when you're actually in the thick of stuff rather than commenting on someone else's drama after the event. I really can't see me crying over this if it were me there, but I wouldn't be taking it at face value either, and although I would be doing my best impression of ignoring it I would be wondering if it was leading up to something worse and alert to whatever was coming next. I'd have thought anybody with half a brain would feel that way, male or female. Labeling it 'sexual' harassment is sexist in itself in a way. Like someone else said, it's harassment, plain and simple.

Out of interest, why weren't you brought up to have more respect for people? I love how a thread about shouting abuse at women turns into blokes complaining about feminism and demanding men should get more respect. Its hardly abuse though is it? Who's complaining about feminism? It was a harmless chant at a Football match. Again whose demanding men should get more respect?

Surely there is only one person who can say if it were harmless or not? No harm intended, possibly.

Again, how did you come to that assumption? That's why I asked, just like you claimed that blokes were complaining about feminism and demanding men should get more respect. Where was that? No offence.

This is you complaining about feminism: "The feminists will tell you they want to be treated equally and no different to Men. Until they get a harmless song about taking it up the wrong un, aimed at them, that is." This is you appearing to me as offended and het up: "Jesus wept..." "The Worlds gone mad..." "C'mon, its ridiculous..." "Lets just stop everything..."
