Went along tonight and was very impressed by the whole event. Tommy Widdrington came across very well and gave a fascinating insight into how he carries out his role. He is working for the club, not necessarily Darrell, and is looking at players for years down the line and not necessarily just today. Revealed that 95% of the players in the club who were here at the start of the summer are out of contract in 2019. Looking at anybody who gets recommended to the club (he was claiming this as a guarantee). Says that the memorial stadium is not a hindrance and that Rovers are a big club for this level and the challenge is more of a wage problem having to go up against the Sunderland’s and the Barnsley’s of the league. Claims we have looked at 350 players or more since he has come in, 250 of which we’re still looking at and 10 or so who would be put in front of Darrell for January. Looking at next January window as well as it’s a long term game and the length of contracts needs to be considered. It’s not about statistics, it’s about seeing the players and considering how they will be in the future. Tom Lockyer was more of the standard player type Q&A stuff. Had interesting things to say about his games in the Wales 1st team and that he finds it easier than at League One level due to the way the games play out. Interesting comments were made in relation to the impact that social media has on some players. Some take it very hard and some players sometimes receive very personal messages into their social media accounts after games. The players need to rally round and support their teammates when this happens and that comments on poor performance are ok but when they step over the line into personal abuse it’s not on. Recalled some instances of players receiving said abuse over the last few seasons. Thank you very much to all the organisers for a well run event. I went along as well , thought both Toms spoke well. TL sat on our table for a while , seemed a good guy and down to earth.

For any player reading this, just think of the person sending it as a tw@t, they wouldn't do it face to face, they would probably ask for a selfie. I've had really nasty comments directed at me just for stating facts before on twitter, it upset me quite badly and now if I see responses to anything I don't even read them. Twitter has become a kind of express yourself forum and don't read the follow up.

See one live, listen to the other on catch up. Or are we going to moan on here when 2 programmes clash on TV as well? Strikes me this forum is packed with people wanting to find things to complain about the club, no matter how trivial. When did we stop being supporters? The day we moved back to Bristol

Reading some feed back on twitter this morning on the football Index evening at the Mem last night. Tom Lockyear and Tommy Widdrington taking questions,
TW said the regional scouts (yes we have some) have looked at over 350 different players and are still assessing 200 of them. So there is a lot of activity going on regards recruitment.
Good evening all round apparently shame I missed it.

Can we rename this thread as looked hard to find mentions of the Q&A

Was a good evening(Thanks Football Index for all the free beers, feeling it a little the day after).
Tommy W took some tough questions but was very honest and insightful. Sounds like he has a very professional team behind him scouting all levels and locations across England.
Tom Lockyer spoke well. Was interesting to hear him talk about how certain 'nasty' social media posts can negatively effect the team, not nice to hear to be honest.

Although the abuse side of last night has, quite rightly, got quite a lot of the attention on here, as a muck around central defender myself the TL section about playing for Wales was very interesting. Said he feels it is easier playing at that level as the game is played in front of him, rather than constantly trying to get behind him (r.g. long balls / long passes) and close to him. A good explanation of how some so-called average players at a certain level can fit in well at a higher level or even look better. That is something I've heard before but still it was great to hear it in real life from a real person. Also loved how he described how good mark mcchrystal was for him / his game / as Captain. BTW on a physical note, TL is pretty slim & light, which has relevance for the point above. Maybe he's suited to passing football more than attritional football.

Have to agree with the comment on TL ..... surprised how slight he was for a central defender. Looked about 5’10 and guess about 70kg

Wish I had his email. Some very promising youngsters in non-league worth monitoring. Are you on Linkedin or Twitter? If so you can message him. I'm not, but fortunately someone has messaged him for me. Judging by the claims we have looked at 350 players or more since he has come in, 250 of which we’re still looking at, then he might already be aware of the names, but worth mentioning just in case they have slipped the net.
