Right me fellow gasheads. The Oxford game is huge. We have a manager that a few are beginning to question but before this man came we had: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bristol_Rovers_F.C._managersTrying to find a successful manager (other than trolls) during my lifetime is very tricky. Even “the great Holloway” failed with a embarrassing depth of striking options. No one is wrong to question the gaffer when it starts going wrong. There are decisions he’s made that my opinion is at odds with.. However, he’s a bloody legend at this club. He’s turned it around before and he can do it again. In my opinion this team isn’t a million miles away. If one of the strikers can hit some form, we’ll follow. We’re at a point where formation is almost irrelevant we need some confidence. This Saturday, let’s show why we’re the superior set of fans in Bristol. Wear blue, bring a mate, and vocally get behind the team. Oxford will bring numbers, and be up for the game as if it were a derby. Oxford games have always been hard fought affairs and I suspect Saturday to be the same. Encourage that mate who’s always been tempted to come along and get behind the group. Let’s buy into this game as a season changing moment. Give the players the best platform to play.

Really like the positive in this message. Of course, there will be resentment and shoulder shrugs, I think for some years the fan base has lost its heart and become more expectant. There was a time when the fans lifted the club, I will be shot for this, but its now the other way, whereby expectation and hope has outstripped reality, and our spirit just isn't the same. Sure there are some left with the old Rovers spirit, like you madgas. Football has changed fullstop.
I still enjoy going to watch my football team, of course I'm gutted when we are crap, but DC deserves our support. He will know if he cant offer any more, he is a realist, so we have no need to hound him out prematurely. So, I agree, lets get it going and see if the confidence and form changes.
Sure the other stuff matters, but frankly, I want to keep it simple and cheer on the gas.

The fans (still turn up in good numbers home and away) and have been behind the team and DC this season - if a bit quiet.

Lee Brown said: he warned his Portsmouth colleagues about what happens when the crowd get going. If “us” fans can get going from the start, it might just help.

The fans (still turn up in good numbers home and away) and have been behind the team and DC this season - if a bit quiet. True. And, (unrelated), whilst looking through the record books last night I was staggered by the circa 4,000 crowds in john ward's 1st spell. I don't remember it being that low but it was. BUT the problem this season is not just the results but also how boring the games are. That does put non-ST holders off. And very hard to get an atmosphere going.

Assuming man management includes crowd management then DC could help the latter by picking an attacking line up i.e. two upfront with two wingers and make sure he leave's Nichols on the bench!

The fans (still turn up in good numbers home and away) and have been behind the team and DC this season - if a bit quiet. What we need, especially those from other corners of the ground, is for the Thatchers End to do more than one rendition of a song. We seem to give one blast of Irene, then settle down, need to keep this going until the whole ground is going, and even then, keep that going for at least a couple of rounds. You hear the top top teams (EPL) go for ages with one of their songs, and it builds for a great atmosphere, we need to (somehow) get that going down the Mem.

With this all the way!Sat is a huge game and Oxford will be boosted by there win Sat, and they have a good record at the mem! Everyone has to be up for it from first whistle to last, The 11 starters must fly out the blocks and get stuck in and when the fans see that they will respond, as another poster suggested it would be great to hear Darrell,Darrell, Darrell, ringing round the ground aka Harold in the Eastville days!come on Rovers, come on Gas eds we can do this!!!

What a great post. Been supporting Rovers for 47 years through the good, the bad and the ugly! I just enjoy being a fan whatever happens. Too many glory seeking supporters in football today. I thought it only related to the Premiership but it has obviously spread to the EFL. It is very easy to make any number of excuses not to attend, but the bottom line is that if you are a supporter you get behind the team whoever is playing, whoever the manager is, whatever tactics we play, whoever the owner is and whatever ground we play in.

Agreed. I’ve only ever stayed away from one home game deliberately in 34 years and that was Buckles last game for obvious reasons. Every other game I’ve missed has been down to family or illness etc. It does become painful to watch at times but as crazy as it probably sounds to some I’d rather watch us play crap and lose 1-0 than miss us play crap and lose 1-0. Being there for the bad times also makes the great times sweeter and it’s what being a supporter is all about.

One up front ain’t working. If you don’t score you don’t win, it impacts on crowds, money, progress , entertainment, morale , confidence ad infinitum. We need to play two upfront, to build an effective partnership, lessen the burden. Let’s get some width to attack the byline ,get the ball either behind the defenders early or pull back into the kill zone. Penetration in the final third, the middies also need to step up and deliver to our front line. I’d would rather lose 4:3 than 1:0 It’s far better to have 2 strikers scoring 10 each than one man getting 20. There’s a better chance of retaining both. Let’s not carry on with the same old sh1t , expecting a different outcome. Time for a change, we have nothing to lose because we are already heading for the drop. Now is the time to strap one on. UTG
