It has been the custom for FL teams to count season ticket holders in the attendance figures whether they are there or not. Now we have a little 21st century technology in card readers surely they know exactly how many people are in the crowd. I just wondered if they were still counting season ticket holders even if they are not there? (Which I have always thought that was a bit of a safety issue) or are they giving out the exact number of people in the ground, which is how it should be.

I have a ST yet hardly attend and rely on ifollow and family to keep up with the gas. Instead I prefer travelling the world watching 'real' football

I'd think the attendance purely reflects the gate receipts sold as it offers quite a bit of transparency to the authorities and the tax man.... As for any safety concern, well that would only be an issue if there were 'more' people in the ground than the official attendance....

The safety issue is this. Say there is a fire, Fire Brigade says how many in the ground? Club responds 10 thousand 500, when in actual fact there is less than 9000 there. I think that could be a problem

I think that could be a problem If there was a fire the last thing on the fire brigades mind is counting people out of the ground..... .....most of whom will have gotten out well before they arrived anyway.....

Every football club gives attendances based on ticket sold, including STs. That’s how it is. But actual attendance figures are quoted in some sources where those figures are needed
