I would had thought this would had been done already!
Bristol Rovers want to extend their alcohol licence so they can serve away fans more easily.
The football club has applied to sell alcohol seven days a week from across the “entire footprint” of the Memorial Stadium.
Dave Parker, the club’s safety officer, said this would enable them to serve away fans without having to get a temporary licence each time.
The news comes after police objected to a temporary licence for the Saturday, October 20, game because of a “history of significant disorder” at Bristol Rovers v Oxford United fixtures, but before a man was arrested following a ‘significant disorder’ on Gloucester Road.
Bristol Rovers drew 0-0 against a visiting Oxford United on Saturday, but it was after the final whistle that tensions flared as fans from both sides made their way into the city. One man was arrested following the fight, with police managing to contain the clash to ensure a minimal amount of damage to property.
The stadium’s existing licence only covers the half-dozen or so fan bars in the stadium, Mr Parker said.
The new licence would allow the sale and supply of alcohol from any part of the stadium between 10am and 11.30pm Mondays through Sundays.
It would mean the club would no longer have to pay £21 to submit a temporary event notice to the council each time it wants to serve alcohol outside those venues.
“It’s just tidying the whole thing up,” he said. “It’s taking an archaic licence and turning it into a modern day one.”
Mr Parker said the club began applying for temporary event notices to serve alcohol to away fans “a few games ago”.
It withdrew its plans to serve Oxford United fans attending a match on Saturday, October 18, after police objected. The club had planned to sell alcohol from the South Stand Away Bar for two hours before kick-off and at half-time
Mr Parker said the club would still take police advice into account when deciding whether to serve away fans at matches.
The new licence would allow the same activities covered by the existing licence, such as films, indoor sports, live and recorded music, dance and late night refreshments, he said.
Residents and business likely to be affected by the stadium’s plans have until November 5 to object.

Judging by some of the Oxford fans behaviour right call not to fuel them up more, but we have enough problems with some of our own.

Fingers crossed that £21 we’re not giving to the council each game will go into the playing budget!

I just don’t understand the Avon and Somerset Police. They made this game a Cat A because of potential trouble,as there usually is with Oxford, yet let them stroll out of the away end early and mob up in the Tinto on Gloucester Road waiting for Rovers to stroll by. It’s not as tho these supporters were your average looking fan! Unbelievable policing which led to the trouble which could’ve been avoided.

I don't understand the issue.
All we want to do is offer away fans the chance to drink in the luxurious surroundings of Le Memorial bar and bistro, where they can enjoy an aperitif and an appetiser.
Anyone who wants to get bladdered on cider and chips is still free to do so at many other establishments nearby.
It won't make any difference to any numpties who want a fight. But it will give the club a bit of money.

A&S Police acting shambolic while charging the football club a fortune. Who'd have thought it?

About time too! Should have put a tent up in the away corner of the carpark years ago for away fans to have a drink. At last it would appear TG has latched on to another nice little income stream. Just a pity Portsmouth, Plymouth and Oxford have already been to the Mem this season. Sunderland will obviously be the chance to sell a pint or two.

It seems that these days they like to let events take their course, and then do the 6 a.m. knock a few months later, using cctv as evidence for prosecution. Gets the arrest figures up, rather than nipping things in the bud and making the area safe for locals.

No OB anywhere paying the slightest bit of interest in them. Almost like they wanted something to happen so they could steam in and improve their arrest statistics.

i am confident we are not going back to the 70s but at this time there has been an increase in football related disorder nationally, it is not normally as violent as this but there is an increase particularly the lower leagues .
lots of debate as to why, but nevertheless I think it is important to point out these people are very much in the minority and not normal football fans.
Hope rovers form picks up soon, I was at burton and rovers fans were very subdued about everything, not like them at all!!'

Families out with their kids etc had to experience a full scale fight outside Lloyds bank just down from the Anchor. Could have easily been stopped at Tinto Lounge. Plus the traffic chaos it caused. Still after witnessing A and S police in action at AG a few years back nothing surprises me.
