Grew up in Trowbridge. Was a Trowbridge Town fan until some mates and I grew old enough to take ourselves to a league game. Nearest club was Rovers as they were playing at Twerton. And so the journey began...

I was born in Bristol but my family are all City supporters so I used to get dragged along to the Gate as a nipper. I loathed that little red robin sat on a 99p striker football that was the City badge at the time. Rovers were cool pirates and played in the best kit so when my old man said be a City fan I said....
...and still do!

Moved from Glasgow in 1973 and having no allegiance with either clubs went to Eastville for a midweek game. The atmosphere was brilliant in the Tote so no need to check out the other lot and of course what a team we had in 73.

Brilliant thread. Brilliant memories.
Born in Colerne, just over the Wiltshire border. Grew up in Bath. Went to Bath Rugby until it got boring. Met Gashead at uni in 1988 who made it all sound so great, and it was. The rest as they say is history.
BTW - when I sell my books in Bath I meet loads of rovers fans but sadly the phrase I hear the most is 'i used to be a Gashead'- they aren't necessarily saying they don't still like Rovers but more that after leaving Twerton they didn't follow them over to Bristol. for some it's also the old classics of time, money, family etc.
We do have a massive (passive...) fan base - a lot around bath, Wiltshire, plus judging from where I post orders to, gasheads all over the country, and some abroad.

Born in Taunton but grew up in Bristol from the age of 2 to 22. Started to take an interest following Rovers in the 88/89 season but as my dad was a neutral (grew up as an Exeter fan) he started taking me and my brother to see a few games at AG (a fact I am not proud of bit I guess it was easier for him). I kept on at him to take us to Twerton and we saw an FA cup reply there one evening (think it ended 0-0 against Reading but could be wrong) - instantly loved it and never wanted to go to AG again (and then 89/90 was my first full season and saw all home games). My brother however was sick in the car on the way home and from then on was a dedicated city fan. My dad had to take me to Bath one week and my brother to Ashton the next. In time though he grew to hate city and love Rovers and as soon as my brother could start making his own way there, he would only watch Rovers. In fact, when I left home and moved away from Bristol he carried on attending games as a season ticket holder (although would always be in the away end when we had Exeter at home).
What's interesting now is that my two boys are Leicester born and bred but are massive gasheads. In fact, my wife picked my eldest up from a birthday party the other day and he had taught all the other kids to sing goodnight irene, which they were belting out at full volume. She had to explain to the bemused parents of the birthday boy what that was all about. He has also taught his little 'gang' of school friends the words as it now their 'anthem', which they sing in the playground during breaks. So bizarrely there's a whole group of Leicester City supporting kids who are growing up singing irene!

Whilst I am a Bristolian, moved away to Devon at a very young age. Grew up supporting ECFC, but there was never any passion, saw my first Rovers game whilst still at school in Devon, saved all my dinner money for many weeks to see Rovers v Chelsea on a weekday (snook off from school, no one ever found out.) Caught train to Templemeads, and was escorted with hundreds of Chelsea supporters, can't remember the score and was about late 70s. Then when I moved to Bristol at 19, found my brother supported the Gas, even though my dear old dad played for the City. So, thought I might as well remain a dissapointment to my dad, and watched Rovers ever since. What is your dads name ?

Born in Frome, began watching Frome Town until I was 12 then watched Burnley when they were playing in the south or London (my Dads team). Started watching the Gas on Jan 3rd 1968 when someone gave me a free ticket to the FA Cup tie at the Gate. Told my Dad I was going to support Rovers and not Burnley. He said " It's your choice, but you know they will never win anything"

I was born in the Chew valley but live in a village nr Melksham now. My first game was oddly enough in March 1975 against Fulham, Fulham had Bobby Moore and Alan Mullery in their team that day as well as the Irish internationals the Conway brothers I think they had Mellor in goal who had bionic finger we lost the game 2-1. My brother took me to my first game I think Wareboys scored for us but not deffinate about that. There were slot of s**theads at our school sometimes got into fights with them but I always gave as good as I got.
