He's a good player. Primarily left footed, he plays as a central midfielder and is good on the ball with a goal and an assist in him. We were linked with his teammate Michael Duffy a while ago who is also decent.

I think most of our midfielders are out of contract in the summer, If Benson or someone similar did come in it would be a definite replacement for one of them, We've got Clarke, Upson, Sercombe, Sinclair, Lines and Russe already to fill 2/3 spaces in the team. As much as I like Lines, he's one of our own after all, he's been poor this season when I've seen him and as he's approaching 33 I'd say his Rovers career is drawing to an end.

We've got a lot of central midfielders, but need to increase the quality in the group IMHO. Benson would be an upgrade from what I've seen. If he was replacing anyone then the obvious candidate would be Lines.

I’d agree with that, the strikers have been blamed a lot for the lack of goals that we have scored recently but the supply to get chances for them needs to be there and I feel in this regard we have been found lacking, I’ve been really disappointed in Sercombe in particular who has failed to find his feet so far in this campaign. A general clear out will be needed next summer irrespective of if we stay up or not and more creativity in the middle of the park would be a welcome addition.

Don’t know anything about him but regarding the large number of central midfielders we appear to have I would still say if he was good enough then that wouldn’t matter. Perhaps when we still had Rory and Ellis yet still signed the right striker we might not be in the position we are now regarding strikers. Signing a player who’s good enough, even when we have enough in their position, seems to be a good one especially when some are coming to the end of their contracts or who might be sold. Sounds sensible to me. UTG!

What a load of nonsense how many times have the BP linked us to Irish players, Trowel, Duffy now this guy, then we sign some English Div 1/2 player nobody has ever mentioned.

Absolute waste of time, even looking at other players, we just sign players the no one else wants.

As well as the "old guard" of central midfielders we also have the likes of Luke Russe and others in the development squad who will never get a game

Lincoln boss Danny Cowley was in Ireland on Sunday watching Dundalk vs Cork City in the League of Ireland Cup Final and had his eye on Benson apparently. Edit “It’s a league we watch a lot of. In the last ten years, lots of players have left the Irish league and forged successful careers in the English Football League,” said Cowley. “It was an opportunity for us to see a really good game on a good stage with our own eyes. It’s one thing watching it on television, it’s another seeing it live. “It was a good, competitive game between two good teams. Dundalk have done well in the Champions League [reaching the final play-off round in 2016] in recent years. Them and Cork are probably the two best teams in Ireland. “There were a couple of boys [playing in the final] that we know who have played in the Football League before. They gave us a good benchmark in terms of the level. “It was a really good opportunity to look at that league and get to know it a little bit more. We enjoyed the trip and it was really beneficial. “We’re trying to widen our net in terms of recruitment. We’re always looking to be aggressive in that area and improve the team. “There are one or two we like, but no doubt they’ll be liked by other clubs in England.” Cowley said preparations for the next transfer window began immediately after the summer window closed. “That started on September 1,” he added. “Recruitment never stops, we work on it every week. “Between us, we’ve seen, either live or on Wyscout [an online scouting platform], nearly 300 games this season. “It’s important to keep your eye out and your ear to the ground.” www.lincolnshirelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/danny-cowley-fai-cup-final-2187434

A lot of players in the League of Ireland that could do a job over here:
Mikey Drennan, Ali Reghba, Kevin Toner, Michael Duffy, Aaron McEnuff, Dylan Watts, Jamie McGrath, Brandon Miele, Trevor Clarke, Sean McLoughlin, Thomas Byrne etc.
