Not for me, especially this season, the trophy is a hindrance, we need players fit on a Saturday. Playing Swansea under 18s is no benefit to us when players are knackered. If we were safe in the league I probably would say different. But to risk players on meaningless competition that benefit premiership clubs is almost suicidal for us. Who was injured tonight? Plus just how ring rusty would players be if they hadn't played for a fortnight before then facing Doncaster. Jakubiak's goal would have boosted his confidence, plus a win after 5 straight defeats must lift moral on the training ground/take some pressure off DC before Saturday's must win game.

A win is a small boost but it doesn't take the pressure off DC (and the players). How can it ? We're 4 puts adrift.

The two strikers that finished tonight's game are better than the two strikers that started They were also fresher than the two taken off 🤔🤔

£20K winnings tonight, potentially another £30K for winning the next round, probably will matter when it comes to January, as that's probably an extra player's wages for half a season. and how much will the club lose by playing in L2 next season? Yeah, because the two are directly related...

TBF we have a very fit squad and for several years now we've had very few injuries. A lot of our players are much of a muchness (which is the problem!) and very few are 100% crucial. Really don't think it's an issue at the mo. These matches have no ET. I know we're all depressed at the mo but we can surely enjoy a win and a good workout. Finally, to reiterate there was no game on Saturday.

of course not but check my post Topper originally responded to;
"Bout time we won games that actually matter...."
Winning £20k will be like throwing a bucket of water off the titanic compared to the losses if we do go down. This team need to string wins together, and fast.

Win again on Saturday and we will have strung two together! If we've got an extra £50K come January then it maybe enough to pull off an Andy Rammell type signing, w/o it then it's down to Lidl again for a bargain.

I'm all up for this trophy actually.
We need the wins & if this tournament can get the players to start having confidence & a winning mentality then that can only be a good thing.

If we need £50k prize money to sign anyone decent then we really are screwed

Think we have been here before after the previous trophy games, and then back to normal in the league...
Even Blackpool should have been a morale/confidence booster but resulted in what now looks a broken clock event.

yes, but surely getting game time (during 10days without a game) and a win is exactly the way we MIGHT win league games. We have a fit squad who need game time together. I really cannot see how winning and staying in the only Cup competition we have left is a negative.

We'll have to agree to differ. I cant see any bearing beating a bunch of kids will have on our league form, we've won in this thing before and then revert back to the norm for league games. Maybe not having a game for a significant length of time might have been a blessing, as they haven't looked in-sync so far this season playing every week. Its December have they not had enough game time?
The bottom line for me is that most of them are not good enough.

I assume you never actually watch Rovers play then but just like moaning about them on here, as whenever Rovers players normally have a two week break they usually play like they've had the whole summer off, not just 2 weeks. Regardless I'd imagine Locks, Martin, OC, Lines, possibly Sincs, will all be back in the starting 11 on Saturday so only half the team will play two games in 4 days.
As far as your bottom line it doesn't really matter as there's f all we can do but support what we've got til January, or until somebody ploughs some money into the club to improve things, at least we not back watching Conference football.

Well playing every week doesn't seem to have made them perform like a well oiled machine either has it?
I accept there is nothing more we as fans can do except hope a rabbit gets pulled out of the hat in January, provided we can get some mug to take a player or two off our hands first.
Other than that its just hoping there are enough worse teams than us to save us. So far I haven't seen many sides that are.

We need a magician then, and DC is not one

"At first, I wasn’t sure that I liked the U21s being invited, but now I am delighted and I think it is a much better format."
It's not just club chairman who have sold out. Holloway demonstrates perfectly just how out of touch he is with the game.

I could equally well argue that he is in touch with current PL thinking, and you are out of touch with the corporate business that used to be known as football.
