...for 400 grand. Blimey, that's not much more than an average house price in Horfield: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46569094Accrington owner Andy Holt has bought the land on which the Wham Stadium is built from the local council. The League One club previously paid Hyndburn Council a lease to play at the ground. their home since 1968. "The price was fixed and assessed independently, I asked for no favours from Hyndburn Council and they have been smashing," Holt said. "It cost £400,000 and an interest rate of three per cent until the debt is settled, which will be soon." He added: "It means if the club does ever hit hard times again, they do not have to pay a lease on the land."

We own the land the Mem sits on, thanks to GD and the incompetence of Bristol Rugby. Swinedon rent from the council as does Northampton

I mean this in no disrespect to Accrington Stanley, because they're an extremely well-run club all the way through, but it's depressing and sad when they're further ahead of us in infrastructural terms... we're in one of the biggest cities in the UK ffs.

And that is what makes it difficult...……...Land Prices, and the fact that the Bristol Population has 2 league clubs, a rugby club, and the Mall. Accrington does not, but my dad was born just up the road from there so good luck to them

It sounds to me local council tax payers have been sold short with that land valuation. Interesting the owner said "It means if the club does ever hit hard times again, they do not have to pay a lease on the land." As the ALQ's have had some stick for apparently not wanting to agree to NH's plan to lease the UWE stadium.

The rent was gonna be peppercorn, but we never heard the details of how income generated was gonna be split.

If it was a greenfield site with no planning permission, then maybe, but it's not. I wonder if the local councillors are enjoying their new cars?

I don't think it's unrealistic to assume that the council in Accrington have sold the land cheaply on the basis that it will be a community asset....
Sounds perfectly sensible to me....
