A Sunderland mate of mine has just sent me this text. It was impressive Bristol Rovers taking 1577 away on a 550+ mile round trip to Sunderland, 10 days before Christmas, in the relegation zone and without a manager!
Good effort, Gasheads.

We were always going to take loads to Sunderland regardless of our league position and time of year.

Such a crying shame our owners dont fancy seeing us taking that many away every away game in the division above, instead of four hundred to crawley, great support, water poor owners.

Their dads chucked rocks down on me from the flyover at the back of the away end at Eastville in 74 I hope they freezed their bollock off today and got a flat tyre on the way home. Worse than Coventry. lol

Fascinating thread. Nice to know we took more than some premier league teams.

Quote; "I thought their fans were excellent and they gave us a decent game. Their main striker, not sure what he's called, gave our CB's, especially Baldwin, a really tough afternoon - strong and fast".

Nice people in Sunderland, we made the journey up north to buy our now departed Bassett Hound from a breeder up there near the dog racing stadium [14 years ago, dog left this mortal coil 2 years passed].
Plus we have friends in Middlesbrough, and again nice 'canny' people.
Loved the 74' comment - made I laugh.

Also pay on the day.

Also pay on the day. Maybe people had already committed, knowing pay on the day and tickets wouldn’t be an issue?
