This will only be a mini report as the interest in this trophy is clear to see from only about 100 attending from Bristol. It was clear to see from the Team Sheet that GC was taking the game seriously and put out a very strong side. My worries were really the omission of both Jacubiak and Holmes-Dennis from the squad and hope both are back Saturday. Anyway I will cover the performance totally in the Players performances but these will be a lot briefer than normal.
Bonham 6 Overall OK but looked badly at fault on the goal which just seemed to go through him.
Partington 6 An average performance but to me always looks like an average centre back playing at full back. Based on this game and this season we have to lose either him or Leadbitter.
Lockyer 7 Reads the game so well and is a player who when he doesn't play you notice how good he actually is.
Broadbent 8 Good solid game and won most of the aerial combats and showed control and vision in possession. If he continues to play like this when given a chance then he deserves to stay in the squad and could yet really challenge Craig for a place.
Kelly 6.5 Still the weakest link IMO but does show potential and the Manager seemingly having great confidence in him will only help him. For me just a few too many lapses that expose us down the flank.
Rodman 8.5 MOM Continues to shine and shows great commitment to the task. unlucky not to score on two or three occasions and very strong in the air especially from goal kicks.He will probably be disappointed with his two headers on goal that went wide but gives us the width we were missing under DC.
Lines 7 Was easy to pick out for most of the game with his Butcheresque headband and provided a lot of control in the game and got in some good tackles.
Upson 7.5 2 excellent blocks when a goal looked likely and always in the mix with sensible positioning and mainly good distribution, spread the ball well and we are now seeing the best of him although I think there is even more to come if we can find the perfect mix in the middle.
Sercombe 7 Workmanlike performance rather than spectacular.Has not yet found his true form of last season but I am sure it will come and hopefully will provide the goals to help us move away.
Matthews 5.5 Lots of running but I have never seen a player who gives the ball away so much especially after doing something good.Not sure he is League 1 standard but will leave that to the Manager to decide. Couple of chances to score went amiss.
Payne 7 Well he did what Nichols can't seem to do and that was put away a chance. Should probably have put us ahead early on where his movement was exceelent and seemed in total control of the situation but his shot was blocked. Think his shot at goal set up Broadbent but there are still those who won't give him much chance and their comments throughout makes you think they want him to fail. Personally I think he is the best option at present alongside Jacubiak.

Leadbitter 6 Did OK but not really a winger. Speed is his asset but I feel now that James Clarke is well ahead for holding the full back position over both him and Partington.
Nichols 6 Missed another couple of half chances but lively
Reilly 6 Chased around but not really on long enough to influence things.
Crowd 5 Very small contingent of just over 100 as expected.
Ref 6 Did OK
Northampton 5 Tidy at times but really looked down and out before their goal.
GC Impressed with his after match interview and it is good and refreshing in its content and passion. he has a tough task still to keep us in League 1 and really has to wheel and deal quickly and efficiently to get in two or three players who will make a difference. for me a big striker ,possibly another striker as well and another left sided midfielder.
As regards the next round of this cup? Anybody at home as don't really fancy any of the sides away from home!!
