Last year the development squad did brilliantly. We had Menayese, Russe, Andre make league debuts and several others play in the cup. This year Hargreaves has been promoted to assistant manager and not replaced in his job, no development players have featured in the league and the players who did last year have seemingly not progressed in a tangible way. If you want to judge whether the Al Qadis are in it for the long haul then, I would suggest that a good barometer is whether we still have a development squad next season. I really hope so.I fear for them because i understand from one of the development staff that they cannot buy any new kit and they will be training with the U-21 more.....

Youth players if they show potential in one game, Russe stood out in the game he played, so should be hanging around the first team, not sent back to youth sides.
Not the same calibre, but Man City Phil Foden would probably look elsewhere too if he was not being considered for first team.
I get annoyed at the too young line, these lads grown up wanting to play football and have shown they have ability, give them a game.

Think at the end of the day, the manager will decide how the budget is spent. If he wants to put the budget more info the first team, than the development squad, I expect he will be able to.

I agree about Russe. Might be just that they want him local to keep an eye on him and keep him involved with training. Would be disappointed if he just disappeared at the end of the season so hopefully he’ll make his mark for Gloucester. If we let him go city will take him

I hope they trim the first team squad down to 19 or 20, and have better quality players, and players that can keep themselves fit.

I suppose they could afford to take him and loan him out, but they have at least 5 or 6 players as good as him or better in a similar position at U23 level already.

Our club must rate him as they’ve just given him a 2 1/2 year contract extension. Bearing in mind they don’t normally give that length of contract , certainly not to a 19 year old.I think Ipgas got the, City will take him bit from the fans forum earlier in the season when Lee Johnson said to Daryl Clarke “ how much do you want for him”.

It does matter what other clubs have if they were thinking of signing a player. I was making the point that they aren't likely to want to sign him when they have plenty of others ahead of him. The Johnson comment was flippant anyway and just jokingly made. I'm glad we've tied him down to a longer contract and let's hope the Gloucester loan does him the world of good and he comes back here and challenges for a first team spot in the near future. Good luck to him.
