I don’t understand all the negativity now. An hour ago I did. But we’ve signed what we’ve been crying out for. A target man who can score a few goals, granted his scoring record doesn’t scream 20 goals a season at this level but it says he’s capable of 10-15. I’ve actually got a really good feeling about this lad and think him and TN will compliment eachother very well. Good post i agree. Remember Devon white, all the experts were saying he was a waste of space when we signed him. Did not turn out too bad in the end did it.

"granted his scoring record doesn’t scream 20 goals a season at this level but it says he’s capable of 10-15." 10-15 In 100 games perhaps. He's got 17 in 111 games in League One previously. Terrible attitude at times too I've heard. Yes but half of them appearances were probably before he even hit the age of 21. At the age of 24 he’s probably only just coming into his prime (if he’s even at that stage yet), and his goal scoring record this season is better than that. I’d say he’s a gamble, but one I have a good feeling about. Looking at the youtube video of him reminds me of Harrison maybe a little slower, we have had many players score nothing for us and go on and score loads elsewhere lets hope he is the reverse of that

Permanent deal, nice.
Manager Graham Coughlan said, "Jonson is a player that I have worked with before and someone who I believe is a top player at this level.
"He has a great amount of pace, he's strong, has a sweet left foot and is someone that can hold the ball up well.
"I believe that given the right amount of guidance, Jonson can be a real star at this football club."

We need any new signing to hit the ground running as were running out of games. So like most of us i hoped for striker with a proven goal scoring record. Hani wont sanction any release of funds and prob doesnt give a shxt if were relegated... Over and out!

Even proven players dont always hit the ground running look at Lambert when we signed him, looking at his youtube clips thunderbolt of a left foot

I’m imagining it now...
Tommy Widderington is in his office, he opens his laptop, cracks his fingers and googles “Coventry City Wikipedia”, clicks on the top result and scrolls down to “Current Squad”. Widderington picks up the phone, leans back and crosses his legs with his feet on the desk while slowing dialing 118-188... “Can I have the number for Coventry City Football Club please?”...”of course, would you like me to put you through?”... “it’s not my money, sure”... The phone rings a further three times before it’s answered; “Hi, Mark Robins here. How can I help you?”... “Oh hi Mark, it’s Tommy Widderington! Can we sign Lee Burge?”... “No mate”... “Oh, ok, cheers Mark”.
Tommy repeats until he gets to squad number 18.

Firstly good luck to the lad, he will need it. Secondly, I wonder what number he was on our wanted list? IMHO probably not even on it! The whole thing stinks, a cheap desperation signing as far as I am concerned. No coincidence for obvious reasons, both signings today came from Coventry, good business for them. They have managed to dump two unwanted players on us. A loyal totally underwhelmed Gashead, Wael you should be ashamed, you are a cheapskate owner and I am very sad you have now proved to me what others have been saying for ages. It’s not like we’ve ever made big signings on the January transfer window or any window . To be fair whilst the owners haven’t been as good as we hoped they gave DC a mid table league 1 budget at the beginning of the season he buggered it up and now in January we’ve had to release players to bring others in. Not exactly the worst we’ve ever known. I think our lack of good league 1 players is more down to poor scouting and/or our inability to persuade them to come to us. A mid table league 1 budget isn’t bad for the size of our club. It’s easy to call him a cheap skate owner but I wouldn’t be surprised if our budget is the highest it’s ever been in our history. If you’ve got the money maybe you should make him an offer ?

TW's dealings, even the signings that we missed out on like Bakayoko, have been incredibly underwhelming so far. How can he justify his wages? He really will be lucky to be in a job next season.

If you’ve got the money maybe you should make him an offer ?He's made it clear they are here for the long haul. Mind you he did initially say he was here as long as the fans want. Given the prevailing mood I wonder if that was another 'Nice Guy Wael' soundbite to endear himself to the fans and he is so in love with his title of 'El Presidente' that he wouldn't dream of leaving now despite what the fans think. He certainly doesn't seem to be looking for contrived photo opportunities with fans any more.

I wish people would do their homework before spouting the absolute crap that some have on here. Take a look at the goals that he has scored, particularly for Rotherham and you'll see that hes got pace and power and a sweet left foot.
Especially take a look at the first goal he scored against City and you can see what sort of player we are getting.
It would appear he got sidelined at Rotherham whilst Kiefer Moore was leading their line. He's not been prolific at Coventry, but there seem to have been some personal/family reasons.
I hope we don't just play him as a target man, because I think he is much more than that - but he scores goals with his head as well as his left foot.
I'm chuffed. It could be some very good business IMO, with Ogogo, I think we have added some steel to the side - just what we need.

The assists bit is what worries me, suggesting even if he is played mainly as a target man he is not finding his strike partner effectively. That aside, he might prove to be a decent signing if things weren't so desperate. As it is given our current situation he looks a massive gamble and it's hard not to draw parallels with Widdrington and conclude that this was lazy scouting. Anyway, good luck to him, God knows he needs to be nothing less than spectacular to keep us up.

Johnson Clarke-Harris is a decent player who will work defences. Personally the real disappointment today for me is the departure of KB, who for me should be starting every game I know THD has played in the left wing position but he is a natural left back and a superb one at that.

JCH is a good signing IMO and one I’ve said I would have made for this division.
He’s a big unit, but very mobile for his size and wins most things in the air that come his way. He’s also got a stinging shot on him, is good from set pieces and can bring others into play.
For a relegation battle he is the exact sort we need. Whilst I agree we need goals, this guy can make a lot more than he can score and could be an excellent foil for Sercombe and Nichols. He is also a serious upgrade on Payne for work rate.
The only problem with this signing, is that there should have been a winger and another striker to go with it, but that isn’t JCHs fault, that’s the boards fault.

In that case, why is Hani still here and why is Wael saying they are in it for the long haul? What do they want? (Genuine question)

As we've seen, the stats (good or bad) don't necessarily tell the whole story of how a player will perform.
Granted there is a link with Widdrington, but Coughlan has coached him before at Southend and you sense that he believes he can get the best out of Clarke-Harris.
