With respect- at Coventry he had a record of 313 minutes per goal, no assists. The assists bit is what worries me, suggesting even if he is played mainly as a target man he is not finding his strike partner effectively. That aside, he might prove to be a decent signing if things weren't so desperate. As it is given our current situation he looks a massive gamble and it's hard not to draw parallels with Widdrington and conclude that this was lazy scouting. Anyway, good luck to him, God knows he needs to be nothing less than spectacular to keep us up. Let's give the lad a chance. I don't see him as a target man and I really hope we don't play him as such.
As we've seen, the stats (good or bad) don't necessarily tell the whole story of how a player will perform.
Granted there is a link with Widdrington, but Coughlan has coached him before at Southend and you sense that he believes he can get the best out of Clarke-Harris.
Fair response! The only thing I would add is that you would think he would be used as a target man as GC seems to have been stringent about getting a 6ft+ player in (Ryan Seager was too small). Height is obviously an important criteria for what GC has in mind. Certainly the football against Oxford was very long ball orientated although I hear it was better against Peterborough so maybe he will be looking to mix it up a bit.

I've seen enough he s better than Payne he can run shoot and head the ball utg 17 goals in 111 League One games. So whats your verdict on the 2 permanent signings then?

To me it looks like 2 very good signings and i feel more optimistic that we can stay up.
Its a bonus that coughlan already knows these players and trusts them to perform as he starts to build his own team. Its also been a niggling doubt that payne and bennett didnt have the best attitude so im not unhappy that we have shipped them out although bennett does have ability.
For me its been a very good window for rovers and i believe the loan window is still open but i could well be wrong.

I don’t understand all the negativity now. An hour ago I did. But we’ve signed what we’ve been crying out for. A target man who can score a few goals, granted his scoring record doesn’t scream 20 goals a season at this level but it says he’s capable of 10-15. I’ve actually got a really good feeling about this lad and think him and TN will compliment eachother very well. Well done nottsgasheadal. Agree. According to the BBC signed at 11.55! So everyone at BRFC were striving to get something done right up to the end. If we hadn’t signed anyone they would all be all over the club and owners like a rash yet we get what looks like a good prospect, albeit at the end and they are still moaning! Imo well done for getting the two Coventry players and getting rid of Payne. I’d say it was a good last day, but I’m probably in a minority. As to those wanting the Al Qadis out. Fine, all about opinions, but it would be better if those opinions could be expressed without abuse. And I’m not sure there are many others queueing up to replace them. Well done to GC, he has been completely honest and straightforward with us fans. We have moved on some players before getting in three players to replace which is exactly what he has been saying throughout January. No bull**** just straightforward common sense. Managers who do what they say they are trying to do will always have my respect. UTG!

Some real Lady gardens out on show tonight
These two new players have got to be better than the two they have replaced
Yes they are not what people wanted, but we are a sh** team in a sh** stadium with NO money to spend, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT !

I did expect another CH, winger and striker tbh Hugo. And I thought that the board might have shown a modicum of fight and respect for this football club and put the money in to get them to prevent the millions it will cost if we go down. Again. If that makes me a lady garden for thinking that then so be it bit I also think it shows the true colours of the board and the owners this window. Especially when you have other clubs around you signing 4-6 players and are climbing the league as a result.

Especially when you have other clubs around you signing 4-6 players and are climbing the league as a result. The owners may have shown you disrespect by: not communicating over the past two years, by not letting us know about the ground or the training ground, by becoming invisible when the going got tough this season. But “showing respect” is a very general term and I’d say that from the fees spent on transfers as said by DC shows a mid table budget and they have supported their managers with finances. That the recruitment has been poor can’t be blamed purely on the owners. The strikers have poor and their records woeful but that’s not Waels fault. By all means criticise them but I’ve not got a spare £2m each season to cover the losses, have you? I would criticise them for not realising the implications of owning a lower league club and living in cloud cuckoo land about thinking they could just build the UWE as they wanted. But by and large I wouldn’t say that failure to bring in 4-6 players is showing disrespect. We are working on a limited budget, DC says mid table and from what has been said most was spent in the summer so I’m amazed that anyone would expect us to be making that number of signings. And GC has been true to his word and says the owners have been as well. UTG!

Firstly good luck to the lad, he will need it. Secondly, I wonder what number he was on our wanted list? IMHO probably not even on it! The whole thing stinks, a cheap desperation signing as far as I am concerned. No coincidence for obvious reasons, both signings today came from Coventry, good business for them. They have managed to dump two unwanted players on us. A loyal totally underwhelmed Gashead, Wael you should be ashamed, you are a cheapskate owner and I am very sad you have now proved to me what others have been saying for ages. It’s not like we’ve ever made big signings on the January transfer window or any window . To be fair whilst the owners haven’t been as good as we hoped they gave DC a mid table league 1 budget at the beginning of the season he buggered it up and now in January we’ve had to release players to bring others in. Not exactly the worst we’ve ever known. I think our lack of good league 1 players is more down to poor scouting and/or our inability to persuade them to come to us. A mid table league 1 budget isn’t bad for the size of our club. It’s easy to call him a cheap skate owner but I wouldn’t be surprised if our budget is the highest it’s ever been in our history. If you’ve got the money maybe you should make him an offer ? What do you mean for the size of our club? Apart from Sunderland, portsmouth, Coventry, Charlton and maybe Barnsley who are bigger clubs then us in L1? Luton,Plymouth and Oxford are the same sized in terms of fanbase.Doncaster, peterbrough have had money thrown at them over the past decade but are not bigger clubs than us.History tells us that we are a top 10 league one club,so even in our sh**e stadium and its tents we should have at least a top ten budget.Having a mid table one is no good enough. We are still avg 8k and up until last season it was between 9k- 10k.We are not as ragbag as people make us out to be,simple.

If he doesn't seem to have his feet nailed to the ground and a bag of cement in his shorts then he should be an improvement on the sham footballer that was Payne. Hopefully Shrewsbury will cancel the remaining payments for that colossal waste of space and keep him for good. One of the worst signings we've ever made, and that includes the disaster areas that were Mickey Evans, that useless Scotsman whose name I can't remember and even, involuntary shudder, Alvin Bubb! I think you forgot Bob Lee !

Strange you can be underwhelmed or overwhelmed but never just whelmed! We are a club that at best takes rough edged diamonds and helps them towards their goal. We never sign the finished article...we just don't have that sort of money, wage structure or facilities to demand a marquee signing. So being realistic a tall lad with pace and a track record that shows he's got something we can work with was always going to be the best result we could achieve striker wise in this window. Let's just support him to be the best that he can be.

For heavens sake give the man a chance, he haven't put his boots on in anger for us yet, and people are critical of him already, my rule of thumb is that i always give a player 6 matches before i pass comment, and I'm not going to change now, so i repeat please give the lad a chance first

17 goals in 111 League One games. So whats your verdict on the 2 permanent signings then? Ogogo could do alright, but a very, very underwhelming transfer window overall. Especially when you consider quality like Ricky Holmes, Callum Roberts, Jordan Rossiter, Stephen Walker, Paul Smyth, Antony Evans, Elias Sorensen, Tyrese Campbell, Ro-Shaun Williams and Aramide Oteh etc were potentially available.. I feel like we are no stronger than when we started this month and maybe even weaker overall, whereas relegation rivals like Gillingham have significantly strengthened with the likes of Ricky Holmes, Billy King, Graham Burke and Leonardo da Silva Lopes and Shrewsbury Town with the likes of Tyrese Campbell, David Edwards and Ro-Shaun Williams.

The majority of moves are not in form players at their clubs for goodness sake! What do some belters on here expect? Do you honestly think clubs will sell in form 20 a season strikers to us?
Two hungry lads looking to prove themselves for two of our top earners who were not proving themselves. Decent business? We'll find out giving them every encouragement while doing so.

Realistically as good as we could have got in this window, a different option to what we currently have and an upgrade on Payne. His left foot looks an absolute weapon based on those videos. I'm not too disappointed tbh.
Does make me laugh that our fan base seem to believe we have some god given right to go out and get a striker in January who will score a goal every 3 or 4 games at this level. Anyone who is doing that won't be sold but for a ludicrous price. It's January! I sometimes wonder whether people actually stop to think.
