So this is our squad until the end of the season:
Keepers Bonham Smith Slocombe
Defenders Leadbitter Partington J Clarke Lockyer Craig Osho Kelly Holmes-Dennis
Midfielders Sercombe Lines Upson Sinclair O Clarke Ogogo Matthews Rodman
Strikers Clarke-Harris Nichols Jakubiak Reilly
So, that’s what we are left with until the end of the season.
Positives from the window - getting rid of unhappy/disruptive players a good thing. Addition of a physical presence up front and more grit in midfield.
Negatives from window - why has neither Slocombe or Smith gone out on loan? We have lost and not replaced width in midfield. Loss of Broadbent, a very promising player and the potential loss of Menayese and Russe at the end of the season due to lack of opportunities for young players.
What worries me is the lack of width issue. There are question marks over every attacking player who can play in a wide position: Rodman (form) Matthews (unproven) Sercombe (not best position) Holmes-Dennis (not best position and fitness)
It will be interesting to see how we set up. I don’t think it’s going to be pretty. We are likely to be compact and may be hard to break down at times, but we really need a couple of forward players to stand up and seize the moment.
I’m naturally what may be called a ‘rose-tinter’ (I hate this phrase) but I have to admit that I’m very worried. I think the squad is short on depth in vital areas and we’re an injury or two away from having problems that would be very hard to solve.
What’s our best team from this squad?

Whils't I agree with your points I still think we may sign a wideman from the realms of the players out there who are uncontracted.Definately one of the goalkeepers should have gone as well. I wold keep Rollin.
But the best bit of business we did yesterday was getting rid of Payne albeit until the end of the season.

Glad we got rid of a couple of ‘bad eggs’ in Payne & Bennett, but voluntarily weakening our wing options by not replacing KB seems like madness for a side not scoring enough goals.
Like the signing of Ogogo and hoping that his presence in the team will free up the likes of Sercombe, O Clarke etc. to support the attack more. Got a good feeling about JCH, too.
Not sure on our ‘best’ side without knowing how the two new lads will settle, but I’d predict this to be XI for tomorrow (injuries permitting):
___________Bonham J.Clarke_Lockyer__Craig_THD Rodman_O.Clarke_Ogogo_Sercombe _____________Nichols ___________Clarke-Harris

Thanks 2nd May. Good points, like you I’m an optimist, I prefer that term to what others call me! As a BRFC fan I ve found I need to be because if I was a realist life would be miserable. So I prefer to look on the bright side and whilst we are vulnerable to shortages in some areas we always have been and until things change we always will be. Keeping is the big worry but I’m pleased that Slocombe is here because although not much in it, I would prefer him to Smith. I’ve said elsewhere that with Smith in goal our defence will lose confidence and we’ll be relegated. Being a Rovers fan there are always lots of “ifs” but if this forward from Coventry could be the player we all hope he is it could make a big difference because defensively we are sound and midfield we have enough to stay up if the forwards can take the chances we do make. Looking at the squad I’m more optimistic than at the beginning of the window. But we need results. UTG!

I think the squad is short on depth in vital areas and we’re an injury or two away from having problems that would be very hard to solve. What’s our best team from this squad? If we'd have kept Bennett or replaced him I'd have been fairly happy with our business. As it stands we look very short of options for wide midfield with only one recognised winger in the squad.
Surprising neither Smith or Slocombe have gone out on loan but that could still happen to a Conference side.
A little disappointed to lose Broadbent but the defence os okay and has reasonable cover for all positions.
We have a wealth of options in central midfield and we're hopefully even stronger there with the addition of Ogogo.
Although we'd have all loved a proven 20 goal a season striker like Pitman, Clarke-Harris must be an improvement on Payne so I'm hopeful we're stronger up front.
It's just wide midfield that concerns me. With Mensah and Bennett out on loan we could have done with at least 1 new winger if not 2.
As for best team, it's tough to say without seeing the new boys. Assuming they're good:
GK - Bonham
RB - J.Clarke CB - Lockey CB - Craig LB - Holmes-Dennis
RW - Rodman CM - O.Clarke CM - Ogogo LW - Sercombe
ST - Nichols ST - Clarke-Harris

Slocombe could only have gone back to Lincoln. And isn't Alexis Andre a senior player so we have 4 keepers?
Either way, it's hardly different from the squad that got us into this mess. Getting rid of troublesome characters is an unknown quantity- it may give us a bit of a bounce, but on the whole given that there is no guarantee of regular goals from any of those strikers I would say it is still a squad that is going to find winning matches difficult and will finish lower than 18th. Hopefully 19th or 20th. It will be close I feel, taking into account how other sides have strengthened with greater determination to stay up.

___________Bonham J.Clarke_Lockyer__Craig_THD Rodman_O.Clarke_Ogogo_Sercombe _____________Nichols ___________Clarke-Harris That's exactly what I was thinking, but putting Rodman and Sercombe up one next to Nichols, to make a 4-2-3-1 will make it look hipper and more modern.

Keepers Bonham Another
Defenders J Clarke Lockyer Osho Menayese* Kelly Holmes-Dennis
Midfielders Sercombe Upson O Clarke Ogogo Matthews Rodman Another
Strikers Clarke-Harris Nichols Reilly
Another
Squad size 20, and that's all you need at this level

Yes the lack of wingers is definitely the biggest concern. Even if Rodman starts every game on the right it means either Matthews (who hasn’t shown any form) or Sercombe (arguably our best centre mid) playing on the left wing.
However this is the only position I would say now that we don’t have enough depth. It wouldn’t surprise me to see either a diamond or a 5-3-2 used between now and the end of the season as I find it hard to see a standard 4-4-2 being effective with our choice of wingers.

Like the teams you've picked guys. I'd only go for Parts at RB for J. Clarke. He's hit form and is a better footballer (passer) than James. Although James has had a very good season amongst a lot of poor performers.

I don't think GC is too worried about width. Like he has said in interview this won't be pretty until the end of the season. We'll be grinding out results. We can't suddenly change the squad and style of play at this point in the season without bucket loads of money.
Once this season is over we'll see where he wants to go tactics wise.

Likewise if we couldn't get, or couldn't afford, a winger to join us then we'll just have to make do with what we have got in the squad. Anybody know what's happened to Leads, is he injured or just out of favour, as he seems to have just disappeared?

True, they did. I just like the energy Clark offers. I suppose I was thinking he may of closed down that equalising strike the other night but we may have lost out in organisation. It will be a more pressing issue next season as Criag obviously isn't getting any quicker. Hopefully by then then we'll have signed a commanding, fast, ball playing centre back who chips in with eight goals a season from corners.. Or maybe not.

Really annoys me how now even our fans think sercombe will be best suited our wide. He is in my opinion our best player by a long throw and as far as I’m concerned you play your best player in his best position then make others fill the gaps. Square pegs in round holes contributed towards dc getting the sack
