Following the questions raised after his caution on Saturday in the Match thread, and in Steve K's excellent match report thread, I thought I would do some digging. According to the BBC Match Reports, Ollie was booked as follows: Aug - 1 Sep - 2 Oct - 2 Nov - 0 Dec - 3 Jan - 2 Feb - 1 Total - 11 However, the FA Disciplinary pages do not show him on a suspension (i.e. 10 cautions), or even just one away (9 cautions). Further digging on the FA website shows Ollie with just 2 cautions for the season (James Clarke has 13 showing!). www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/discipline/suspensions/clubdiscipline?league=32&club=10551969So - are the BBC completely wrong, have Ref's reported James as cautioned instead of Ollie? Have either James or Ollie served any suspension for cautions yet this season?

So that's why we keep on buying players called Clarke

Also checked the matches up to now and make it 10 yellows in the league after Southend. Going by the below guide taken off the FA website this should mean a ban. James Clarke with the 13 against his name, must be the only reason why Ollie is not named anywhere.
Hopefully the club knows for definite as the last thing we need at the moment is a points deduction for fielding an ineligible player!
Yellow and red card cut-off dates for players
For the first time, the 2018-19 season will also see the introduction of competition specific suspensions for yellow cards in the following competitions: •Premier League •EFL •National League •Emirates FA Cup •EFL Cup •Buildbase FA Trophy
Therefore, the cut-off dates for receiving a sanction as a result of accumulating cautions in league matches only are:
Number of cautions Cut-off date [inclusive] Five [Premier League] Following 19 league fixtures Five [EFL] Following 19 league fixtures Five [National League] Following 23 league fixtures 10 [Premier League Following 32 league fixtures 10 [EFL] Following 37 league fixtures 10 [National League] Following 37 league fixtures 15 [All leagues] *End of the season**
The remaining competitions will carry suspensions in those competitions only when a player has received two yellow cards in that competition.
N.B. Discipline in the EFL Trophy is competition specific and remains unchanged

Have either James or Ollie served any suspension for cautions yet this season? The FA records are clearly wrong and either OC's been giving JC's name every time he gets a yellow card, or somebody at the FA doesn't know their OC's from their JC's when it comes to recording the data from the ref's reports. So does the club have a duty to keep a note of the cards given or is it solely down to the FA records? Perhaps we should just locked this thread and keep quiet about it just in case Shrewsbury query it with the FA?

Thanks for the info on yellow cards in the EFL and FA Cups - I hadn't realised that. It does all seem very odd and, like others, I hope we are ensuring we are all correct with the FA - we dare not get any points issues.

I would imagine the name the referee takes - either J Clarke or O Clarke is irrelevant. Surely the ref will record the player's sqad number and the FA will cross reference this. We surely cannot be responsible for keeping the records for yellow and red cards. Taking this a stage further, we have in the past been waiting on the FA to notify us whether an issued red card is a 1 or 3 match ban. Looks to me as the record keeping and notification is all down to the authorities.

Every player has his squad number on both shirt and shorts.
However, we did try to get 2 betting firms on the shirt and you just get that nasty feeling that something else has been done wrong because the experienced administrators have left the club.
Poor James Clarke - wondering why his pay packet has always been light - he's been paying Ollie Clarke's fines.

Surely not with our new professional, as opposed to enthusiastic amateur, approach to things.

I think a better approach would be to highlight it to someone within the Club so that they can get to the bottom of it and ensure all is correct. If the BBC reports are all correct (and it is possible that one or two should have been someone else and not Ollie) then the club should ensure we are open and honest. Then if Ollie is to miss the Shrews game then so be it, but at least we'll be correct. I'm also struggling to understand why James is shown with 13 cautions but, to my knowledge, hasn't been suspended???

I can't see half dozen plus refs would mix up OC with JC, this is clearly an admin error by the FA, but if the individual ref's reports are confirming each time OC has got a card and the FA records are wrong then is the club's responsibility to keep their own records and report any failings in the official records to the FA? Now this has all been highlighted by Radio Bristol I assume OC will be missing on Saturday. On a general note you do have to wonder why OC's picking up so many cards, when the likes of Locks & Craig are only getting 4 each.

If it’s an admin error by the FA, why are we drawing attention to it? Don’t we want our players to get off with having no suspensions or fines?

Is it possible we have mitigated any yellow cards and they have then been rescinded?

Ollie Clarke has been cast in the role of ball winner, in the absence of Sinclair or the desire to play Partington in front of the back four.
Now Ogogo is here, that role has been filled and OC will have a bit more freedom to push forward. Because Coventry weren't playing that much, Ogogo has only picked up 4 yellows, but I sense a tough tackler like that will pick up a few more cards before the end of the season. Glad he's here though.

In theory though if you can challenge an incorrect red card then why not yellow? Excusing the fact it would take up a ĺot if the FA's time.

You'll probably find most teams' player who picks up the most yellows will be a centre mid rather than centre backs. Makes sense as they're the ones winning the ball back, scrapping in midfield, stopping potential breakaways. Centre backs often last line of defence so could risk a red card more often but largely a lot of fouls they give away are for holding/tussling/the odd nibble here and there rather than yellow card offences. I don't think we're anything out of the ordinary in this regard.
