Quite simply the best goalkeeper I have ever seen. His save against Harold Jarman at Eastville was equal to the famous one against Brazil for England. A true gentleman too. RIP.

I remember queuing for hours to get his autograph in a sports shop in broadmead near the bear pit - probably early 70's - still have it. RIP

RIP Gordon.
Shocking though how he had to sell his World Cup medal to raise some money for his family. How times have changed for top players eh!

Rest In Peace Gordon. He was before my time so unfortunately I did not have the chance to see him play live, but I have of course seen some of his legendary saves and his name is synonymous with legendary goalkeeping. He will always be historically known as one of the greatest ever England players.

One of the truly great players that I had the privelege to watch on a number of occasions. Will always remember the time he sat next to me in the old South Stand at Eastville. As well as being a pleasure to talk to he even signed my programme along with George Eastham who was set next to him.RIP Gordon a great keeper who made everything look simple

I vividly remember watching Gordon and the team playing in the World Cup finals of 1966 & 1970, in grainy black and white 425 lines TV format on a tiny screen, maybe 16",
Gordon seems invincible and was generally considered the world's best. By today's standards he was a small keeper, surely no more than 6' 0". Like the rest of the players he observed the spirit of the game, not taking ages over goal kicks, no falling on the he ball and then just lying there before getting up in slow-motion and in instalments. The method used by all keepers seemed to be to bounce and catch the ball for a few paces then launch the ball upfield. I often wonder how those keepers would compare with their present peers!
Still, he was a giant of his times, and football is much poorer for his passing.
RIP Banksy, you'll soon be able to reform the team in heaven and thrash the Germans again!

Although I am too young to have ever seen him play, I read his autobiography many years ago. Really enjoyed it. Some great stories in there and had he not been ill in the 1970 World Cup we may have got further in the competition. . RIP

I saw him at Eastville playing for Stoke in the cup game as already mentioned, and saw him as a child win the world cup - brilliant keeper, wonderful character. RIP Gordan, truly one of the greats
We had beat Manchester United the round before meeting Stoke, we beat them at Old Trafford and Dick Sheppard saved a George Best penalty, was it Harold that scored the winner?
Stoke totally out played us, I think we lost 1-4 ?

Yes, that Stoke cup tie was the time I saw him play and he didn’t have to do much that night tbh. But he was the greatest keeper I ever saw and that Pele save will live on for ever for fans of my vintage. Simply the best. UTG!

John Rudge scored our first, McIlroy equalised for Manure and Bruce Bannister scored the winner. We then played Wolves in the next round and got beat 4-0.
