I recommended Ollie Hulbert he is my mates son and Southampton were all over him, in schoolboy football scored ridiculous amount of goals, never seen him play what is he like? Haven't seen him play for over a year now, but he is a classy player, lots of assists (good awareness) as well as goals, Phillips more of a typical finisher. Thanks I knew he was left sided and used to score 8 goals a game in schoolboy football, so got him a trial hope he does well, saw him recently and he is enjoying it.

I wonder if Tommy has anyone keeping an eye on the SGS/Bristol Academy side at the former Filton College? In the last 18 months they have had six lads join the pro game and the side have beat Crystal Palace, Sunderland and other top level academy sides at the same age levels this season. In a short space of time Antoine Semeyeno went from playing for SGS to making appearances in the Championship/League Two and getting scouted by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United. Saikou Janneh has gone from playing for SGS and scoring 8 goals in 13 games last season for Clevedon Town in the Western League, to joining a Championship club and then scoring 14 goals in 20 games on loan in the National League South. Dan McBeam has gone from playing for SGS and the Gloucestershire U18 Representative Side, to joining Barnsley. www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/leeds-united-manager-bristol-city-2511146Edit: 16 goals for Janneh in the National League South.

I play football there in the week and there's City badges, kits, banners, ad campaigns et al EVERYWHERE. Not that that should discourage some basic level scouting but it obviously makes things harder/muddies the water if we're attempting to steal youth off the other side!

I think going back a bit, it used to be us that had more of an affiliation with the place when it was Filton College...someone will correct me if I'm wrong on that. Edit: Chris Lines, Sean Rigg and others came through the Filton College system.

Yeah I think you're right but it's now all wound up under the Bristol Sport franchise umbrella sadly, meaning they get first dibs etc. Kind of annoying and I think this impacts our ability to attract the local talent now more than ever (we're always gonna be second choice anyway but you get the point). Hopefully I'm wrong but I fear the likes of Lockenbauer and Ollie will form part of a somewhat golden generation for us.

As Tommy himself will tell you, if you haven't played for Coventry then you never made it.

I know it is difficult with City's resources, but Janneh for example, was playing for Bath College, Clevedon Town and Cadbury Heath before joining the SGS setup and then City.

Oh I 100% agree with you, don't get me wrong. But I think a smart scouting approach would be to look at regional-based teams like those mentioned above. We got Rollin Menayese from WSM via Cardiff. Bath are high-flying, plus there's plenty of local teams like Paulton, Yate, Clevedon (their u18s got far enough in the FA Youth Cup to play - lose 4-0 - to Man City) to be checking out talent. Either way, we could definitely be doing more based on recent years given no one has really broken through since Locks/Ollie and established themselves.

One I'm hoping we are keeping an eye on is 17-year-old striker Louis Britton. He has scored 18 goals this season for a struggling Mangotsfield Utd, including 5 in one game against Cinderford Town, a team our young development squad lost 3-2 on Tuesday. Either way, you're right that there's plenty of local teams to be checking out talent, from National League South to the Western League and beyond. Ashley Barnes was banging in the goals for fun at Paulton, look at him now.
