Down from Llangollen for the game tomorrow and staying at the Hilton Bradley Stoke where coincidently Carlisle are staying before their game with Newport. Sat down by us was Tom Parkes, my son and heir remembers him as he was a mascot when Tom waso Captain many moons ago,so he went and had a chat and a few selfies, fair play to Tom he was very engaging, shame he never quite fulfilled his potential at Rovers

He played a full part in both promotions and was a very committed player. When dc replaced him with hartley it seemed to make perfect sense but i don't think hartley or clarke-salter were better than tom parkes.

I always quite liked Parkes and thought he had good footballing ability for a centre back. He has impressed his new manager, the former Scotland international centre back Steven Pressley, who said: "When you talk about Parkes, Parkes is a player that has hugely impressed me since I came in. He has made a big impression on me. I think he’s a player that has a lot more to offer. I think he’s getting better and better, and he is beginning to really believe in himself."

Tom parkes v Tom Lockyer. Ba the forenames other similarities, Captain too young, and not captain material. Differences locks is still here. Why I don’t know?

I just don’t get the dislike for Tom Lockyer, he isn’t perfect but we are playing in the third division and we are unlikely to attract Ramos anytime soon.

Tom is a very solid defender but his use of the ball is often dire - which top 6 L1 club would have him in their team ?

We need to big him up massively, sing songs about our captain and welsh international! Then hopefully someone might sign the muppet! 😂

Hopefully Cardiff get relegated and then sign him as they look for cheaper options for back up and competition. 🙏 What would it take? Half a million knowing us? Lol! 😈

I haven't seen a lot of him over the last couple of years so it's hard to say what level he is at.

Anyway back on topic - I never thought Parkes was as bad as some made out! Only hold good memories at the mention of his name - good luck to him!

Where to begin with locks. He’s too short to be a proper center back, (he wins f**k all in the air unless he under no pressure and has both feet on the floor) He too weak physically. Has no pace. Obviously lost in translation with picking out a pass and clearing your lines. Everything is just lumping the ball where ever. Not a shouter. Need a leader with a voice.. Bottom line he is everything Steve Elliot is not.

Where to begin with locks. He’s too short to be a proper center back He's about 6ft or just over, the same height as Bobby Moore (although Moore is listed as 5ft 10in/11in in some places). Sergio Ramos is 6ft, Carles Puyol is 5ft 10in, Franz Beckenbauer is 5ft 11in, Franco Baresi is 5ft 9in and former World Player of the Year, Fabio Cannavaro, is also 5ft 9in. Just to clarify, I'm not comparing him to those players...just his height.

I thought that the issue with Parkes was his off field lifestyle choices which were deemed to be affecting his playing ability and inhibiting his progress. I’m pleased for him if his current manager thinks that the penny has dropped and he is realising his potential.

Bottom line he is everything Steve Elliot is not. I’m sorry but i disagree. He wins the majority of ball in the air!! He’s had big strong CF’s in his pocket (like Hawkins for Pompey who got dragged off at ht). He doesn’t need pace as his reading of the game is second to none. Agreed about his on the ball stuff. And shouting and being loud on a football pitch doesn’t make a leader. He will also put his body on line at any chance he gets!

We dont need top 6 l1 players. We need top 20 L1 players.
